Article Abstract

This case report describes the use of an erector spinae plane block (ESPB) for postoperative analgesia in a 4-year-old patient undergoing Meso-Rex shunt surgery. After anesthesia induction, the ESPB was performed using ultrasound guidance. During the procedure, Doppler imaging revealed nearby vascular structures, which required careful attention to avoid injury. A single injection of ropivacaine was administered, along with a catheter for continuous analgesia. The patient experienced effective pain control without the need for additional analgesics. This case highlights the importance of Doppler imaging in ensuring ESPB safety, particularly in pediatric patients. .

Purpose: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a common technique in the surgical management of renal lithiasis, but it also represents a significant workload for surgeons. Factors such as the patient's position and the type of lithotripter used influence the physical and mental load on the surgeon. The study aimed to identify stressors related to PCNL by comparing the physical and mental workload experienced by urologists during PCNL under different patient positions and using two lithotripters.

Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to assess the relative efficacy of paravertebral block (PVB) and erector spinae plane block (ESPB) for postoperative analgesia and recovery.

Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating PVB and ESPB for postoperative analgesia and recovery were retrieved from databases, including PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Science-Direct, and Google Scholar, from inception to January 2025. The primary outcome included resting Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at 6 h and quality of recovery (QoR) score in first 24 h.

Background: It is crucial to assess a patient's quality of recovery after major surgery. This study aims to compare the effect of neuraxial morphine and bilateral erector spinae plane block on quality of recovery in the first 48 postoperative hours in patients undergoing open upper abdominal surgeries.

Methods: This prospective, triple-arm, randomized study was performed to compare the effect of neuraxial morphine (intrathecal morphine, thoracic epidural) and erector spinae plane block on postoperative recovery.
