Cumulative disability in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) results from incomplete recovery following inflammatory, demyelinating attacks. Retrospective case studies and current clinical practice indicate that rapid treatment of acute attacks with apheresis limits injury and improves recovery. We evaluated the effects of apheresis and complement inhibition on lesion progression and recovery in a murine ex vivo cerebellar explant model of NMOSD injury. While both strategies reduced lesion formation relative to vehicle treatment, we observed that anti-C5 complement inhibition with eculizumab rapidly halted astrocyte destruction and immediately curtailed lesion extension; whereas an experimental mimic of immunoadsorption (IA), allowed for continued low level astrocyte destruction. During lesion recovery, C5 complement inhibition resulted in a faster rate of oligodendrocyte repopulation and improved myelin repair compared to IA. Complement inhibition may offer multiple benefits for the treatment of acute NMOSD attacks.

Purpose Of Review: This review explores the evolving understanding of efferocytosis - the clearance of dead or dying cells by phagocytes - in the context of atherosclerosis. It highlights recent discovers in cell death modalities, impaired clearance mechanisms and emerging therapeutic strategies aimed at restoring efferocytosis to stabilize plaques and resolve inflammation.
Recent Findings: Recent studies have expanded the scope of efferocytosis beyond apoptotic cells to include other pro-inflammatory cell death modes, including pyroptosis, necroptosis and ferroptosis, revealing context-dependent clearance efficiency and immunological outcomes.

Objectives: To investigate the mechanism of (QJZ) for ameliorating renal damage in MRL/lpr mice.
Methods: With 6 female C57BL/6 mice as the normal control group, 30 female MRL/lpr mice were randomized into model group, QJZ treatment groups at low, moderate and high doses, and prednisone treatment group (6). After 8 weeks of treatment, the mice were examined for 24-h urine protein, creatinine and albumin levels, serum levels of IgG, complement 3 (C3), C4, anti-dsDNA, interferon γ (IFN‑γ) and interleukin 17 (IL-17).

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens is a typical pesticide-induced resurgent rice pest. A previous study showed that a fungicide, jinggangmycin (JGM)-treated rice led to markedly increased sugar content and (Insulin-like Peptide 2) ILP2 in response to sugar-mediated TOR signaling and stimulated fecundity in BPH. However, the role of the other ILPs in response to types of carbohydrate compounds remained poorly understood.
