Poultry egg production is shaped by the intertwined action of multiple physiological systems, greatly magnifying the complexity of its underlying genetic regulation. Although multitissue mapping of regulatory variants offers a powerful route to untangle this complexity, comprehensive data sets in ducks remain scarce. Meanwhile, the contributions of peripheral systems beyond neuroendocrine regulation on poultry egg production are still largely unexplored.

This article explores two complementary strategies for addressing the affordability and access challenges facing advanced therapies. As high development costs and limited market access have led to the withdrawal of several therapies, the article examines how these barriers create 'valleys of death' that prevent innovation from reaching patients. Through the case of Glybera and other examples, it outlines a rehabilitative approach focused on reforming current systems through improved reimbursement schemes, regulatory streamlining, and more efficient manufacturing.

Type 1 regulatory cells suppress T-cell cytotoxicity to alleviate liver injury during acute hepatitis B virus infection in mice.

Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology (MOE/NHC/CAMS), Shanghai Institute of Infectious Disease and Biosecurity, Qidong-Fudan Innovative Institution of Medical Sciences, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) exclusively infects hepatocytes and produces large quantities of subviral particles containing its surface antigen (HBsAg). T cells play a central role in controlling HBV infection but can also mediate liver injury and contribute to disease progression. However, the mechanisms that regulate T-cell responses to eliminate the virus without causing immunopathology during acute HBV infection remain poorly defined.

Bovine coronavirus (BCoV), a member of the Betacoronavirus genus, causes severe calf gastroenteritis and respiratory disease, resulting in a significant loss of livestock. Coronavirus non-structural protein 14 (nsp14) is involved in viral RNA replication and modification and subverts host immune regulatory pathways to facilitate immune evasion. In this study, we demonstrated that BCoV nsp14 mediates TNF receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3) degradation through the coordinated targeting of the ubiquitin-proteasome and autophagy-lysosomal pathways, thereby potentiating viral replication.
