Background: Kidney disease is a major global health issue, causing numerous deaths and a loss of life years. This prompts us to explore potential targets or mechanisms that may increase the likelihood of diagnosing and treating kidney diseases. N6-methyladenosine (mA) modifications dynamically regulate RNA through "writer" enzymes, "eraser" enzymes, and "reader" proteins, influencing its processing, stability, and translation efficiency.

Pathogenic variants in type IV collagen genes (, , ) are classically associated with Alport syndrome (AS), a hereditary nephropathy primarily affecting the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). Recent findings, however, suggest a broader phenotypic spectrum that includes renal cyst formation, raising questions about overlapping mechanisms with other cystic kidney diseases. Clinically, renal cysts have been increasingly reported in patients with autosomal dominant and X-linked forms of Alport syndrome, particularly in association with glycine missense variants.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a chronic kidney condition that arises from prolonged hyperglycaemia that can progress to kidney failure, severe morbidity, and mortality if left untreated. It is the major cause of chronic kidney disease among people who have diabetes, accounting for a significant percentage of patients with end-stage kidney disease who require kidney replacement therapy.
Main Body: In DKD, numerous dysbalanced metabolic, haemodynamic, inflammatory signalling pathways, and molecular mediators interconnect, creating a feedback loop that promotes general kidney damage.

Background: Elevated red cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with increased postoperative mortality, but less is known about kidney outcomes. This study investigated the association between elevated preoperative RDW and postoperative worsening of long-term kidney function and incidence of acute kidney injury.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients ≥18 yr undergoing noncardiac operation at Landspitali-The National University Hospital of Iceland between 2005 and 2018.
