Members of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily such as myostatin, activin A, and GDF-11, are dimeric cytokines signaling through activin receptors. They play important regulative roles in different biological processes as the formation of muscle and red blood cells. Therefore, inhibitors of the activin receptor signaling pathways (IASPs) are potential performance-enhancing agents in sports, which are included in sections S2 ("Peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics") and S4 ("Hormone and metabolic modulators") of the WADA Prohibited List. Within this research project, a multiplexed detection assay for nine IASPs in doping control serum/plasma samples by means of (immuno-)affinity purification, tryptic digestion and LC-HRMS/MS was developed. The method was validated and proved to be specific and sensitive (LOD: 10-50 ng/mL). Additionally, it was modified to allow for using urine. As proof-of-concept, authentic Luspatercept serum and urine and Sotatercept serum post-administration samples were successfully analyzed. Luspatercept could be detected in both matrices up to 70 days after the initial and 7 weeks after the second dose. Sotatercept was successfully detected in a serum sample collected 43 h following injection. The presented method can be employed in doping control routine analysis as a qualitative initial testing procedure.

Thermoelectric technology has significant applications in waste heat harvesting and temperature control of electronic devices. PbS has long been seen as a robust candidate for large-scale thermoelectric applications due to its low cost and high mechanical strength. However, the low ZT near room temperature hinders its further application.

Reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process is critical for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials to realize spin-flip of triplet excitons in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), but the RISC processes of most TADF materials are not fast enough, undermining electroluminescence (EL) efficiency stability and operational lifetime. Herein, a symmetry breaking strategy to accelerate RISC processes is proposed. By designing asymmetric electron-withdrawing backbone consisting of benzonitrile and xanthone/thioxanthone groups, two new asymmetric TADF molecules, 4tCzCN-pXT and 4tCzCN-pTXT, with multiple 3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazole donors are successfully developed.

Dried blood spots (DBS) have emerged as a promising complement, and in some settings, an alternative, to urine for anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) testing, offering advantages such as minimal invasiveness, simplified storage, and transportation. This study evaluated two DBS collection devices-cellulose-based Capitainer-B50 and polymer-based Tasso-M20-and compared results with traditional urine analysis. Ten self-reported AAS users were recruited and provided matched urine and DBS samples.

The rapid advancement of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies has significantly expanded their potential applications such as sensors and detector technology. In this study, the gamma-ray shielding performance of ulexite-doped composite resins fabricated via Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing was experimentally investigated to evaluate radiation attenuation capacity. Composite resins containing different ulexite loadings (0, 1, 3, and 5 wt%) were exposed to gamma rays at energies of 356, 662, 1173, and 1333 keV to evaluate their attenuation characteristics.

Dynamic micro/nano-structured surfaces play pivotal roles in biological systems and engineering applications. Despite considerable progress has been made in fabricating precisely ordered architectures, achieving controlled motion in top-down fabricated structures remain a formidable challenge. Here, we introduce an advanced dynamic micron-nano optical platform featuring hierarchical microscale wrinkles integrated with ordered nanoscale arrays.
