The annual Minimal Cell Workshop, hosted by the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), is an international virtual seminar that brings together over 80 academic, industrial, and government laboratories. Researchers use the JCVI's minimal bacterial cell platform to explore the principles of cellular life and integrate new chemical pathways. Since its creation in 2016, this platform has fostered global collaborations. The fourth workshop featured 26 talks on ongoing research with minimal cell strains, including JCVI-syn1.0, JCVI-syn3.0, JCVI-syn3A, and JCVI-syn3B. Topics included innovative imaging techniques like super-resolution microscopy and cryotomography, DNA replication assays, and minimal cell division. New approaches for ATP synthesis and the role of moonlighting proteins were also discussed. JCVI-syn3B applications explored its potential in understanding persistent pathogens and as an anticancer therapeutic. The workshop encouraged sharing techniques for cell culture and genetic manipulation, fostering collaboration and advancing efforts to develop genome-scale algorithms for understanding and manipulating cellular functions.

The stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway represents a promising target in cancer immunotherapy. A series of unsymmetrically substituted BODIPY dyes featuring fused benzo- or naphtho-fragments on one pyrrolic unit were synthesized from the corresponding pyrrolic precursors. The synthetic route was optimized using a modular approach based on the condensation of formylpyrroles with alkylpyrroles, enabling the identification of precursor combinations that minimize byproduct formation and improve preparative yields. In the event of a large-scale radiological or nuclear emergency, a rapid, high-throughput screening tool will be essential for efficient triage of potentially exposed individuals, optimizing scarce medical resources and ensuring timely care. The objective of this work was to characterize the effects of age and sex on two intracellular lymphocyte protein biomarkers, BAX and p53, for early radiation exposure classification in the human population, using an imaging flow cytometry-based platform for rapid biomarker quantification in whole blood samples. Peripheral blood samples from male and female donors, across three adult age groups (young adult, middle-aged, senior) and a juvenile cohort, were X-irradiated (0-5 Gy), and biomarker expression was quantified at two- and three-days post-exposure.

Objectives: Antibiotic resistance towards penicillin has been attempted to counter by chemically modifying ampicillin through the conjugation with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The current study optimizes the conditions for synthesizing and characterizing AgNP-ampicillin to quantify the conjugation extent, evaluate the antibacterial efficacy, and explore the underlying antibacterial mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: AgNPs were synthesized from silver nitrate by chemical reduction method, silica-coated with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and amine functionalized by (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), which was then conjugated with ampicillin via the carbodiimide chemistry.
