Article Abstract

Altermagnets exhibit nonrelativistic spin splitting with net-zero magnetic moments, making them advantageous for spintronic devices with miniaturized size and high integration. Developing general methods to design altermagnets, particularly in a low dimension, is highly desirable. Here, we propose that breaking the spatial inversion symmetry of crystals can produce altermagnetism in antiferromagnetic monolayers. By applying Janus structurization to two-dimensional (2D) FeSe-type monolayers, 41 polar altermagnets were successfully identified through first-principles calculations, confirming the feasibility of our proposed approach. Furthermore, via systematic screening, we obtained 29 altermagnets with significant spin splitting (>0.5 eV) and high Néel temperatures (above liquid nitrogen temperature). Moreover, using 2D MnPSe as an example, we revealed the mechanism of how polarity drives the transformation of antiferromagnets into altermagnets and demonstrated its anisotropic spin current generation and notable spin Hall effect. This work paves a way for realizing high-performance and multifunctional nanoaltermagnets.

This study demonstrates the successful fabrication of nanostructured Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films combining the conjugated copolymer poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene--3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PDOF--PEDOT) with spherical and triangular silver nanoparticles (AgNP). The LB technique allowed precise control over the molecular arrangement and distribution of the nanoparticles at the air-water interface, resulting in compact, reproducible and structurally ordered nanocomposite films. The structural and morphological properties of the interfacial monolayers and LB films were investigated using surface pressure-area isotherms, Brewster angle microscopy, polarization modulation infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and quartz crystal microbalance.

Polariton Spin Separation and Propagation by Rashba-Dresselhaus Spin-Orbit Coupling in an Anisotropic Two-Dimensional Perovskite Microcavity.

Nano Lett

Key Laboratory of Micro & Nano Photonic Structures, Department of Optical Science and Engineering, College of Future Information Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

The separation and propagation of spin are vital to understanding spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in quantum systems. Exciton-polaritons, hybrid light-matter quasiparticles, offer a promising platform for investigating SOC in quantum fluids. By utilization of the optical anisotropy of materials, Rashba-Dresselhaus SOC (RDSOC) can be generated, enabling robust polariton spin transport.

Tailoring Unusual Ferrimagnetism in Rare-Earth Iron Garnets via Graphene Interlayers.

Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 201204, P. R. China.

Ferrimagnets (FiMs), particularly compensated FiMs, composing of coupled sublattices with antiparallel and inequivalent magnetic moments, present a unique material platform for the regulation of magnetism, which is highly desirable for the design of next-generation spin-based devices. Nevertheless, highly efficient methods for controlling its ferromagnetism remains significantly limited owning to the epitaxial growth required for producing high quality and fully featured films. This study, demonstrates the multiple tunability of ferrimagnetism in the rare-earth iron garnets (REIG: thulium iron garnet) film by incorpoating the graphene interlayers.

Background: Polarized Nuclear Imaging (PNI) is a novel gamma imaging approach that encodes spatial information by using polarized radioactive nuclei and manipulating them with magnetic fields, gradients, and RF pulses. The resulting anisotropic photon emission yields direct k-space encoding, removing the need for collimators.

Purpose: The work will focus on developing the first, high-performance Monte Carlo-based algorithm for PNI, fully integrated into the GATE framework.
