L. plants are used in phytotherapy and as food. (CT) and (CD) are endemic of Algeria and have been scarcely studied up to now. Here, the phenolic content of their aerial parts was investigated using validated methods. Furthermore, the antioxidant properties of CT and CD were evaluated by performing DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and phenanthroline assays. CD showed the highest total phenol (219.8 mg GAE/g) and total flavonoid (82.8 mg QE/g extract) contents. CT showed the highest flavonol content (46.3 mg QE/g). Chlorogenic acid, 4-OH-benzoic acid, and protocatechuic acid were the main compounds detected by LC-MS/MS. Several flavonoids were also detected in CD, while only hesperidin was detected in CT. Both the species showed antioxidant properties; however, radical scavenging activity and FRAP of CD were significantly higher than CT and were comparable with positive controls. Overall, this work affords a contribution to the characterisation and valorisation of the Algerian flora.

Secondary metabolites are important bioactive compounds for diet and medicine. This study optimizes the extraction of hydroethanolic herbal extracts using an EDGE (Energized Dispersive Guided Extraction) system, evaluates their antioxidant capacity, and analyzes correlations among antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and individual compounds. A Doehlert matrix design was used to optimize extraction, having temperature and time as independent variables, and total phenolic content (mg GAE/g) as the response, quantified via the Folin-Ciocalteu method.

As the primary storage protein, highland barley gliadin (HBG) exhibits limitations in the processing of highland barley foods, primarily due to its abundant non-polar amino acids. In this study, HBG was utilized to prepare sugar-HBG complexes with pentose (xylose), hexoses (glucose and galactose), and disaccharides (lactose and maltose) in an aqueous system at a pH of 11 and a temperature of 75 °C. Subsequently, the structural and functional characteristics of these complexes were evaluated.

Tea (Camellia sinensis) polysaccharides (TPS) and tea polysaccharide conjugates (TPC) are bioactive compounds found in tea leaves and flowers, attracting growing interest for their biological activities and emerging applications in food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Despite substantial progress in tea polyphenol research, studies focusing on TPS and TPC are still relatively underrepresented. This review fills a gap in the literature by summarizing the latest advancements in the extraction, characterization, and biological effects of TPS and TPC.
