Article Abstract

The cytokine network plays a crucial role in regulating immune responses and facilitating intercellular communication. Cytokines are essential in numerous physiological and pathological processes. This study aimed to investigate associations between blood cell counts and a broad range of cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors. We included one hundred and sixty-five essentially healthy individuals in this study, which was approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority (Dnr 2015/378) and registered in EudraCT (2014-004235-39). Blood samples were collected for blood cell counts and analysis of cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors using the Proseek Multiplex Inflammation kit, Olink Bioscience, Uppsala, Sweden. Correlations between the different markers were calculated using Spearman rank correlations, adjusted for multiplicity and for multiple testing, with a significance threshold of < 0.05. There were significant associations between platelet count and 23 cytokines, between white blood cell count and 8 cytokines, and between erythrocyte volume fractions and 19 cytokines. IL-6 had a central role within the cytokine network associated with platelets and was also associated with white blood cells and neutrophil cells. These findings emphasize the integrated nature of immune and hematological responses, where blood cell parameters are associated with systemic cytokine activity. The observed intercytokine associations, including cross-family interactions, may help to highlight regulatory pathways, providing potential targets for biomarker development and therapeutic intervention in immune-mediated conditions.

[Mechanism and features of blood vessel damage around the gunshot wound canal].

Sud Med Ekspert

January 2025

Bureau of Forensic Medical Expertise, Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Unlabelled: Forming wound canal is one of the main signs of gunshot wound. Its features are related to the following differential diagnostic signs: presence of gunshot wound, its intravitality, prescription, direction of projectile (bullet) movement, power of used weapon, etc.

Objective: To study the mechanisms of wound canal formation in gunshot injury, the pattern of damage to the biological tissues of its walls (mainly, blood vessels), the features of hemorrhages forming around it.

Importance: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is typically caused by the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and recurs in 40% of patients. Half of patients with MCC produce antibodies to MCPyV oncoproteins, the titers of which rise with disease recurrence and fall after successful treatment.

Objective: To assess the utility of MCPyV oncoprotein antibodies for early detection of first recurrence of MCC in a real-world clinical setting.

Deciphering the molecular landscape of acute myeloid leukemia initiation and relapse: a systems biology approach.

Division of Hematology and Blood Bank, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Paramedical Sciences, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patient-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) behave differently than normal ones, creating a more protective environment for leukemia cells, making relapse harder to prevent. This study aimed to identify prognostic biomarkers and elucidate relevant biological pathways in AML by leveraging microarray data and advanced bioinformatics techniques. We retrieved the GSE122917 dataset from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus and performed differential expression analysis (DEA) within R Studio to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among healthy donors, newly diagnosed AML patients, and relapsed AML patients.

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature, is a crucial process in both physiological and pathological contexts, including cancer. Phospholipases A (PLAs), enzymes found in snake venoms, have attracted attention due to their potential antiangiogenic properties. In this study, we explored the antiangiogenic effects of PLA isoforms isolated from Bothrops diporus venom using a combination of in vivo and ex vivo models.

Objective: Adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) are promising cell sources for damaged tissue regeneration. The efficacy of therapeutic angiogenesis with ADRC implantation in patients with critical limb ischemia has been demonstrated in clinical studies. There are several possible mechanisms in this process such as cytokines and microRNA.
