Article Abstract

Although defending self-efficacy is related to defending behavior in cyberbullying, little is known about the underlying mechanisms of this association. This study explored the relationship between defending self-efficacy and defending behavior. In a China sample, it examined the mediating role of defending intention and the moderating role of empathy in the association between defending self-efficacy and defending behavior. A cross-sectional sample of 672 Chinese adolescents (M = 14.86, SD = 1.74) completed a questionnaire, which includes measures of defending self-efficacy, defending intention, empathy, and defending behavior. Results showed that defending self-efficacy was significantly and positively associated with defending behavior. Mediation modeling indicated that defending self-efficacy directly affected defending behavior and could indirectly affect defending behavior through the mediating role of defending intention. In addition, the mediation role of defending intention was moderated by empathy, and as the level of empathy increased, the effect of defending self-efficacy on defending intention became stronger, and the effect of defending intention on defending behavior became stronger. These findings advance our understanding of how and when defending self-efficacy is related to defending behavior in cyberbullying among adolescents. It also sheds some light on preventing and intervening in adolescent cyberbullying from a bystander's perspective.

"Self-Induced Symptoms" and the Insanity Defense.

The insanity defense is intended to negate the culpability of defendants who cannot fairly be held responsible for behavior that was due to their mental illness. Does the calculus change when the defendant may have self-induced an impaired mental state by failing to take prescribed medication? That question was considered by the Georgia courts in the case of a woman with bipolar disorder whose reckless driving led to the death of a 5-year-old child. One of the few states to have addressed this issue, Georgia looked to the terms of its insanity defense statutes to come up with an answer.

The senescent cell (SC) fate is linked to aging, multiple disorders and diseases, and physical dysfunction. Senolytics, agents that selectively eliminate 30-70% of SCs, act by transiently disabling the senescent cell anti-apoptotic pathways (SCAPs), which defend those SCs that are pro-apoptotic and pro-inflammatory from their own senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Consistent with this, a JAK/STAT inhibitor, Ruxolitinib, which attenuates the pro-inflammatory SASP of senescent human preadipocytes, caused them to become "senolytic-resistant".

Abstract: Aggressive territoriality can have significant benefits for resource acquisition yet is a costly behaviour. Selection should therefore favour mechanisms that allow individuals to modify their behaviour to maintain and defend their territory whilst minimising costs. One such mechanism between intraspecific territorial competitors is neighbour-stranger discrimination.

Positional relative age effect in europe's top ten football leagues.

BMC Sports Sci Med Rehabil

Independent Researcher, Graduate of Coaching Education Department, Faculty of Sport Sciences, Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Nevşehir, 2024, Turkey.

Background: A previous study confirmed the existence of the relative age effect (RAE) in the top ten leagues of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) during the 2016-2017 season, reporting that the effect was particularly pronounced among defenders and midfielders. The present study investigates whether this effect persists. Specifically, it aims to examine the RAE among professional male footballers in UEFA's top ten leagues during the 2023-2024 season, and to explore how the effect varies by playing position and league.

Antipredator behaviors in animals often vary with developmental stage, microhabitat, and social context, yet few studies examine how these factors interact in species that undergo ontogenetic shifts in chemical defense. The spotted lanternfly () is an invasive planthopper whose nymphs transition from cryptically colored early instars to aposematically colored fourth instars that feed primarily on chemically defended host plants. We conducted 1460 simulated predator attacks on nymphs across four developmental stages to examine how antipredator behavior varies with instar, plant location (leaf vs.
