Sustainable catalysts based on main-group elements, such as frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs), have emerged as alternatives to precious metal systems. The initial reaction of the Lewis acid, Lewis base and small molecule (e.g. H) is formally termolecular, but the reaction is rationalised by the pre-association of the acid and base in an encounter complex. Here we show that the charge-transfer band between P(mes) and B(CF) can be analysed by supramolecular UV-vis spectroscopic techniques to provide the key thermodynamic parameter, the association constant (K), for the active encounter complex, i.e. the pre-associated complex that is specifically in the correct orientation for small-molecule activation. We also demonstrate that a higher concentration of active encounter complex in solution leads to a faster activation of hydrogen. This method enables researchers to directly probe the complex that underpins FLP small-molecule activation and subsequent catalysis, and will aid the design of more active sustainable catalysts.

Background: Dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS) is a rare, chronic neutrophilic dermatosis that is often refractory to conventional therapies.
Case Report: We present a 29-year-old male with treatment-resistant DCS who achieved rapid and sustained remission following off-label use of tofacitinib, a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. Previous therapies, including antibiotics, corticosteroids, and isotretinoin, had failed.

Ectopia cordis is an exceptionally uncommon congenital condition where the heart develops outside its normal position due to incomplete closure of the ventral chest wall during embryogenesis. The anomaly may occur in isolation or with other structural defects, often resulting in a poor prognosis despite advancements in medical and surgical care. This report discusses a preterm neonate delivered at 33 weeks of gestation following an uneventful pregnancy in a dizygotic twin gestation.

In the context of the importance of manganese β-diketonates as precursors for the preparation of manganese oxide thin films and nanostructured materials, we report synthetic protocols and pitfalls encountered in the preparation of a family of Mn(ii) complexes of two fluorinated β-diketonates, 1,1,1-trifluoroacetylacetonato- (tfac) and 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonato- (hfac). The synthetic conditions and crystal structures of six new complexes are reported, including a coordination polymer {K[Mn(tfac)]}, an unusual trinuclear complex Mn(tfac)(OH), and a series of mononuclear complexes with coordinated solvents tetrahydrofuran, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, water, and acetonitrile. The crystal structures of two known Mn(ii) complexes are also reported for completeness.

The European Health Data Space aims to transform health data management across the EU, supporting both primary and secondary uses of health data while ensuring trust through General Data Protection Regulation compliance. As part of the HealthData@EU Pilot, this study investigates coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) testing, vaccination, and hospitalization metrics across six European countries, with a focus on socioeconomic disparities and challenges in cross-border data access and standardization. This observational, retrospective cohort study used a federated analysis framework across Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, and France.

To address these issues, a behavioral health psychiatric emergency department redesigned its triage process to include a fast-track protocol for low-complexity patients, eliminate treatment redundancies, and incorporate a provider in triage to improve patient outcomes and staff satisfaction.
Methods: Using the Plan-Do-Study-Act methodology, a revised triage process was implemented to streamline workflows and reduce waste.
