Two azaphilones designated as acetosellins A and B (1-2) and one new coumarin (3), along with eight other known compounds (4-11), were isolated from an endophyte Talaromyces pinophilus WRH-1 of Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. Their structures were elucidated through detailed interpretation of UV, NMR, and HR-ESI-MS data. The absolute configurations of C-8 in compounds 1 and 2 were determined by spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculations, while C-3 configurations were established through computational C NMR and DP4+ analyses. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of 1 and 2 against H23 cell lines were measured using MTT assay, with IC values of 14.10 and 14.65 μM, respectively. Furthermore, compound 2 demonstrated medium inhibitory effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, with MIC value of 32 μg/mL. Additionally, compounds 1 and 2 were found to be osteogenic in the prednisolone induced osteoporotic zebrafish at 4 μM and 2 μM, respectively.

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance represents a critical global health threat, requiring the discovery of novel bioactive compounds. Fungi from Amazonian biodiversity are promising sources of secondary metabolites with potential antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to investigate the production of antimicrobial compounds by two Amazonian fungal strains using the OSMAC (One Strain-Many Compounds) approach.

Endophytic fungi have emerged as valuable reservoirs for discovering bioactive compounds with significant biological properties. In this study, a novel endophytic fungus, Talaromyces pinophilus 47 K9, was isolated from Prosopis stephaniana. The antimicrobial enzyme glucose oxidase was purified from the culture medium of T.

This study focused on the mycotransformation of a very prominent PAH, anthracene, and its acute toxicity reduction by Ascomycete fungi: Trichoderma lixii strain FLU1 (TlFLU1) and Talaromyces pinophilus strain FLU12 (TpFLU12), indigenously isolated from benzo[b] fluoranthene-enriched activated sludge. The results indicate that both the isolates TlFLU1 and TpFLU12 could tolerate anthracene exposure up to 1000 mg/L, with increased expression of ligninolytic enzymes: Laccase, Lignin peroxidase, and Manganese peroxidase. The mycotransformation of anthracene was observed to be growth-linked and mediated by the expression of the intracellular enzymes as the initial mechanism used by these strains followed by the ligninolytic enzymes with up to 56% and 38% anthracene degradation by TlFLU1 and TpFLU12, respectively, after 24 days with a concomitant change in pH from 5 to 4 (TlFLU1) and 6.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are valued for their unique properties and can be synthesized biologically, offering a greener alternative to traditional methods. This study assessed the potential of cell-free filtrates (CFFs) of seaweed-associated marine fungi to produce AgNPs. More specifically, Talaromyces pinophilus, Aspergillus fructus, Stemphylium gracilariae, Purpureocillium lilacinum, Microascus croci, Penicillium toxicarium, Exophiala mesophila, and Emericellopsis maritima, when cultured in media prepared with artificial seawater or distilled water (hypo-osmotic conditions) as a possible stress inducer.
