Article Abstract

Breast Cancer (BC) is a growing medical concern that may heavily influence sexual functioning (SF) and body image (BI) in BC patients. In healthy individuals, physical exercise (PE) has been proposed as a crucial factor to improve BI. However, little is known about the effects of PE on BI and SF in BC patients. Therefore, the aim of this study is to summarize the extant literature regarding the effects of PE on BI and SF in these populations. Our review, conducted using the PRISMA extension for a Scoping Review, was carried out in three databases: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Only Randomized Control Trials (RCT) evaluating the effects of different types of PE on BI and/or SF in a population affected by or who have survived BC were included. The literature search yielded 488 studies. Twelve studies resulted in being eligible for inclusion in this review. The effects of aerobic exercise on BI and SF were scant. Studies employing resistance training as PE provided contrasting results. Conversely, studies using holistic approaches yielded larger benefits on BI and SF. Our results showed that PE has marginal effects on BI and SF. PE interventions longer than six months and based on holistic activities should be implemented to improve BI and SF in BC patients. To safely draw conclusions on the effects of PE on BI and SF, future studies should consider more accurate monitoring of exercise intensity, and a thorough evaluation of the possible mediators of the effects of PE in these populations.

Background: Gait impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD) occurs early and pharmaceutical interventions do not fully restore this function. Visual cueing has been shown to improve gait and alleviate freezing of gait (FOG) in PD. Technological development of digital laser shoe visual cues now allows for visual cues to be used continuously when walking.

The adverse effects of Western diets (WD), high in both fat and simple sugars, which contribute to obesity and related disorders, have been extensively studied in laboratory rodents, but not in non-laboratory animals, which limits the scope of conclusions. Unlike laboratory mice or rats, non-laboratory rodents that reduce body mass for winter do not become obese when fed a high-fat diet. However, it is not known whether these rodents are also resistant to the adverse effects of WD.

There is a concern on the safety of cosmetic ingredients and their endocrine-disrupting (ED) potential. Frequent use as well as the use of a diverse range of cosmetics pose a concern for a potential health risk via aggregate exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). In this study, a list of ingredients available in cosmetic products that were recently introduced to the Dutch market was retrieved from the commercially accessible Mintel database and screened for the presence of EDCs.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evolution of jump and sprint force-production capacities with maturation in young soccer players. One hundred sixteen young elite male soccer players aged 11-17 years were assigned to six different groups according to their maturity status. The force-velocity (F-V) profiles in jumping and sprinting performances were compared among groups.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) reported in 2023 that approximately 1.3 billion people, or 16% of the global population, are living with a disability. Among these, locomotor disabilities constitute a significant portion, underscoring the urgent need for devices that enhance mobility and support daily living.
