A 67-year-old man on intense immunosuppressive therapy after heart transplantation for end-stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 7 years ago developed severe dyspnea and was admitted to our hospital. His serum severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 antigen test was positive, and he was diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related pneumonia. He was started on ventilatory management for severe respiratory failure and remdesivir for COVID-19, with careful adjustment of immunosuppressive drugs. However, unexpectedly prolonged muscle weakness necessitated transfer to a rehabilitation facility. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, it is still considered a risk in post-transplant cases. Infection control is considered critical in heart transplant recipients, especially in those receiving intensified immunosuppressive drugs.

Objective: To estimate the excess deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pernambuco between 2020 and 2022.
Methods: This descriptive study used data from the Mortality Information System (SIM). The excess deaths, expressed as the observed-to-expected deaths ratio, and the P-score, expressed as the proportional excess deaths, were evaluated.

Rationale: Bilateral symmetrical globus pallidus (GP) involvement associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection is an extremely rare finding among cases of COVID-19-related encephalopathy.
Patient Concerns: A 76-year-old man was diagnosed with pneumonia and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. He was transferred to the hospital on day 9 after symptom onset due to worsening respiratory distress and hypotension.

Rationale: This case report highlights the complex clinical course and successful multidisciplinary management of a pediatric patient with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), who posed clinical dilemma at presentation. It underscores the ongoing clinical relevance of MIS-C as a post-Coronavirus disease 2019 sequelae and emphasizes the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion for MIS-C in pediatric differential diagnoses, especially when symptoms overlap with other common conditions.
Patient Concerns: An 11-year-old previously healthy Saudi girl presented with gastrointestinal symptoms initially suggestive of acute appendicitis.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many aspects of academic research, particularly for early career investigators striving for independence. This study examines geographic heterogeneity in the pandemic's impact on the publication productivity of recipients of National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute K01, K08, and K23 awards within Departments of Medicine across different states in the US using data from the National Institutes of Health RePORTER and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID data tracker from 2015 to 2022. Findings indicate that while publication productivity increased steadily until 2020, it plateaued soon after.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruptions to daily life, leading to increased anxiety, stress, and depression, particularly among postpartum women.
Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental design aimed at determining the effect of supportive tele-education on postpartum care offered to women during the COVID-19 period, specifically focusing on the mothers' obsessive-compulsive behaviors, feelings of safety, and breastfeeding self-efficacy. In the study, independent t-tests and dependent t-tests were utilized.
