Uncooled mid-wave infrared (MWIR) image sensors, which are compact, lightweight, and energy-efficient, are expected to take a dominant position in the future infrared market. As an alternative to traditional epitaxially-grown infrared semiconductors used in high-performance cryo-cooled MWIR imagers, the concept of hybrid sensor materials is gaining attention. Specifically, hybrid structures combining two-dimensional (2D) materials, known for their superior carrier transport properties, with colloidal quantum dots (QDs), which offer excellent optical properties, have shown record-high room-temperature infrared responsivities with spectral responses extending to short-wave infrared (SWIR).

Chemical stressors are pervasive, affecting both terrestrial and aquatic environments. The continual influx of these toxins is damaging ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them. The abundance of environmental toxins makes aquatic habitats inhospitable for aquatic life.

Background: This study aimed to analyze the outcomes of patients undergoing ventral hernia repair (VHR) with a polypropylene mesh with embedded silver ions (PSM) in the context of different degrees of contamination, compared to standard conventional macroporous polypropylene mesh (PPL).
Methods: From May 2019 to October 2023, a retrospective comparative analysis of patients who underwent elective or urgent VHR with a SilverMesh (PSM group) versus standard macroporous polypropylene mesh (PPL group), based on the Spanish Hernia registry (EVEREG). The exclusion criteria were other PSM indications (groin hernia, prophylaxis) and the use of composite meshes or any material different to PPL.

Introduction: Obesity is a pandemic and a key driver of type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and healthcare spending. Incretin drug therapy prescribing for obesity has dramatically increased in recent years necessitating researchers and clinicians to rapidly update their understanding of and approach to obesity management.
Areas Covered: We assembled a multi-disciplinary team of experts to identify and complete a narrative review of the relevant literature regarding behavioral interventions, nutrition, physical activity, incretin drug therapy for weight loss, and the management of incretin drug adverse effects.

There are several variations of laboratory procedures to preserve and demonstrate monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in tissue for the diagnosis of gout. MSU is water soluble and washed away in most staining solutions, so these procedures generally necessitate two slides; one which is silver stained and one which is left unstained to confirm the negative birefringence of MSU when viewed under polarized light. The modified Gomori's methenamine silver (GMS) for urates is an underutilized procedure which provides sensitive, high-contrast staining of MSU crystals.
