The development of a seizure relies on two factors. One is the existence of an overexcitable neuronal network and the other is a trigger that switches normal activity of that network into a paroxysmal state. While mechanisms of local overexcitation have been the focus of many studies, the process of triggering remains poorly understood. We suggest that, apart from the known exteroceptive sources of reflex epilepsy such as visual, auditory or olfactory signals, there is a range of interoceptive triggers, which are relevant for seizure development in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE). The hypothesis proposed here aims to explain the prevalence of epileptic activity in sleep and in drowsiness states and to provide a detailed mechanism of seizures triggered by interoceptive signals.

Alpha oscillations have been implicated in the maintenance of working memory representations. Notably, when memorised content is spatially lateralised, the power of posterior alpha activity exhibits corresponding lateralisation during the retention interval, consistent with the retinotopic organisation of the visual cortex. Beyond power, alpha frequency has also been linked to memory performan ce, with faster alpha rhythms associated with enhanced retention.

Rationale: Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) are used to identify genetic variants for association with schizophrenia (SCZ) risk; however, each GWAS can only reveal a small fraction of this association.
Objectives: This study systematically analyzed multiple GWAS data sets to identify gene subnetwork and pathways associated with SCZ.
Methods: We identified gene subnetwork using dmGWAS program by combining SCZ GWASs and a human interaction network, performed gene-set analysis to test the association of gene subnetwork with clinical symptom scores and disease state, meanwhile, conducted spatiotemporal and tissue-specific expression patterns and cell-type-specific analysis of genes in the subnetwork.

Fragile X syndrome (FXS), a leading inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism, is frequently accompanied by sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances. In this study, we comprehensively characterized these disruptions and evaluated the therapeutic potential of a circadian-based intervention in the fragile X mental retardation 1 () knockout (KO) mouse. The KO mice exhibited fragmented sleep, impaired locomotor rhythmicity, and attenuated behavioral responses to light, linked to an abnormal retinal innervation and reduction of light-evoked neuronal activation in the suprachiasmatic nucleus.

Study Objectives: Chronotype has been linked to a wide variety of psychiatric conditions. In particular, evening chronotype could be a transdiagnostic risk factor for different mental health difficulties. In this study we examine how chronotype relates to psychopathology and whether it can be conceptualised as part of the global construct of psychopathology (p-factor) by studying the genetic and environmental overlap between these variables.
