Background/aims: Although the urea breath test (UBT) is widely used as a representative monitoring test after eradication, false-negative results can occur because of the gray zone related to its cutoff value. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performances of the rapid urease test (RUT), the RUT with sweeping method, and the UBT, and to investigate the role of the sweeping method in the gray zone of UBT values.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 216 patients who received standard first-line eradication treatments (n=216). All participants underwent to testing using the sweeping method and UBT on the same day. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were analyzed to compare the two methods.
Results: The sensitivity (0.537 vs 0.806, p=0.002) and accuracy (0.843 vs 0.870, p=0.026) of the UBT were inferior to those of the sweeping method. A total of 31 individuals tested positive for according to the UBT, whereas 54 individuals tested positive according to the sweeping method. In the group for which the gold standard definition indicated positivity but UBT results were negative (n=31), all individuals had a UBT value under 2.5‰. In the multivariate logistic regression model, a UBT value of 1.4‰ to 2.5‰ increased the risk of false-negative results by 6.5 times (odds ratio, 6.5; 95% confidence interval, 2.077 to 20.288; p=0.001).
Conclusions: After eradication, false-negative results can occur for individuals undergoing the UBT, primarily for values below the UBT cutoff. The RUT with the sweeping method can potentially help detect in the gray zone of the UBT, improving diagnostic accuracy.

Background: Golf is a sophisticated sport that integrates precision, skillfulness, and strategic thinking, with swing techniques of different clubs exhibiting distinct biomechanical characteristics. This study aims to investigate the biomechanical characteristics of golfers' full swings with different clubs from kinematic and dynamics perspectives, thereby providing insights for optimizing full swing techniques.
Methods: Ten low-handicap right-handed college male golfers were recruited, and their full swing parameters with the driver, 5-iron, and 7-iron (each club was successfully collected 10 times) were synchronously collected using a 250 Hz infrared motion capture system and a 1000 Hz three-dimensional force platform.

Lichens exemplify a unique symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae or cyanobacteria, where fungi (mycobionts) provide structural support, while algae or cyanobacteria (photobionts) provide nutrients. Recent discoveries in the order Chaetothyriales have led to the description of several lichenicolous species, underscoring an intricate relationship of some black yeast-like fungi with lichens. The present study aims to investigate public metagenomic data of lichens available in the SRA database, covering a total of 2888 samples.

Objectives: Street sweeps, involving the state-enforced removal of makeshift residences and confiscation of personal belongings from people in public spaces, are a common tool employed by urban governments to address public health and safety concerns. Amidst the ongoing housing and toxic drug poisoning crises in Vancouver, Canada, we sought to characterize experiences of confiscation of personal belongings by city workers among unstably-housed people who use drugs people who use drugs.

We study how the degree of nonlinearity in the input data affects the optimal design of reservoir computers (RCs), focusing on how closely the model's nonlinearity should align with that of the data. By reducing minimal RCs to a single tunable nonlinearity parameter, we explore how the predictive performance varies with the degree of nonlinearity in the model. To provide controlled testbeds, we generalize to the fractional Halvorsen system, a novel chaotic system with fractional exponents.
