The Réunion hotspot is the best example of a primary plume, manifested as intraplate-volcanism, a large igneous province and a geochemical anomaly. In this study, we investigate the mantle transition zone (MTZ) structure beneath the Réunion Island using 3D-migration of P-Receiver functions, to decipher the effect of the plume on the MTZ and its architecture. Results indicate a thin MTZ in the regions surrounding the Réunion, like Madagascar and its vicinity, eastern and south-eastern sides of the Réunion, suggesting high-temperature anomalies within, caused by the plume. Interestingly, we detect a depressed 410 km discontinuity exactly beneath the Réunion hotspot and a broader depression of 660 km discontinuity within and regions in its proximity. These maiden results shed-light on the high-temperature anomalies in the mid-mantle, probably sourced from the Réunion plume and provide evidence for the Majorite-garnet phase transformation at 660 km discontinuity. We postulate that an ascending Réunion plume has initially hit the 660 km discontinuity, got horizontally spread and further progressed to the 410 km discontinuity as a columnar structure.

Purpose: To reassess the anatomic basis of optic disc pit maculopathy (OPM) using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and to characterize the broader structural abnormalities comprising the optic pit complex.
Methods: Sixteen patients with OPM were imaged using a high-resolution SS-OCT system (DREAM OCT). Cross-sectional and volume-rendered scans were analyzed for lamina cribrosa defects, intraneural cavitations, and pathways for fluid entry into or beneath the retina.

Monitoring skeletal muscle contraction provides valuable information about the muscle mechanical properties, which can be helpful in various biomedical applications. This chapter presents a single-element flexible and wearable ultrasonic sensor (WUS) developed by our research group and its application for continuously monitoring and characterizing skeletal muscle contraction. The WUS is made from a 110-µm thick polyvinylidene fluoride piezoelectric polymer film.

Unlabelled: Automated analysis of optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers improves the prediction of results of loading anti-VEGF therapy of vascular pigment epithelial detachment (PED) associated with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Objective: This study evaluated the effectiveness of OCT biomarker analysis algorithm in predicting the anatomical outcomes of loading anti-VEGF therapy for vascular PED in nAMD.
Material And Methods: OCT scans performed prior to loading anti-VEGF therapy were analyzed using the algorithm in 69 treatment-naïve nAMD patients (70 eyes) with vascular PED exceeding 200 µm in height.

Voltage-gated K channels of the Kv2 family coassemble with electrically silent KvS subunits in specific subpopulations of brain neurons, forming heteromeric Kv2/KvS channels with distinct functional properties. Little is known about the composition and function of Kv2 channels in spinal cord neurons, however. Here, we show that while Kv2.

Background: Hemi-hamate osteochondral grafting is a surgical technique that is utilized to reconstruct the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint in cases of unstable dorsal fracture-dislocation with >50% articular surface involvement. However, hemi-hamate osteochondral grafting can be technically challenging, has been reported to have various technical modifications, and can lead to complications such as overstuffing of the joint. This surgical technique article describes successful PIP joint reconstruction with use of a hemi-capitate osteochondral graft, which may offer a viable alternative to hemi-hamate osteochondral graft.
