Article Abstract

Colorectal cancer (CRC), which is among the most prevalent cancers worldwide, is caused by environmental and genetic factors. It has been shown that the gene is associated with CRC pathogenesis; moreover, Zyxin (ZYX) may play a role in level and activity. Therefore, the present research aimed to investigate the levels of P53 and genes and proteins in CRC tumor samples. Cancerous tissues (n=31) and matched non-cancerous tissues (n=31) were randomly obtained from 31 patients with CRC. Total RNA was extracted using RNXplus, and gene expressions were assessed by Real-time PCR. Furthermore, the Western blot technique was used to investigate the expression of ZYX and P53 proteins. The obtained results revealed that the expression of and genes in cancerous tissues showed no significant difference compared to matched non-cancerous tissues. On the other hand, measuring protein expression using the Western blotting technique indicated that the ZYX (P=0.0081) and (P=0.0065) expression in tumor tissues significantly decreased compared to those in matched non-cancerous tissues. Correlation analysis indicated a significant correlation between ZYX and P53 proteins (r=0.746, P=0.013). Based on our findings, ZYX might have a suppressive function in CRC and is associated with P53.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) of chronic inflammation-associated cancers (CIACs) is shaped by cycles of injury and maladaptive repair, yet the principles organizing fibrotic stroma in these tumors remain unclear. Here, we applied the concept of hot versus cold fibrosis, originally credentialed in non-cancerous fibrosis of heart and kidney, to lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), a prototypical CIAC. Single-cell transcriptomics of matched tumor and adjacent-normal tissue from 16 treatment-naive LUSC patients identified a cold fibrotic architecture in the LUSC TME: cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) expanded and adopted myofibroblast and stress-response states, while macrophages were depleted.

Background: LIM domain-containing protein 2 (LIMD2) is known to promote metastasis in several cancers. However, its role and underlying mechanisms in colon cancer remain unclear. This study focused on investigating the prognostic value, functional impact, and molecular mechanisms of LIMD2 in colon cancer.

Background: The growing number of premalignant colonic lesions undergoing surgical treatment can lead to increased overtreatment.

Objectives: We assessed the magnitude of overtreatment by comparing rates of adverse events related to surgical and endoscopic treatment of complex benign polyps.

Design: This was a single-center retrospective study conducted at a tertiary care hospital.

Introduction: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small, non-coding RNA molecules critical for cellular function, growth, and development. Recent advances in remote diagnostic technologies have highlighted the potential of urinary miRNAs as non-invasive biomarkers for disease monitoring. This study introduces a simple, rapid, and cost-effective reagent for exosomal miRNA extraction, designed for urine-based exosome screening.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common histological subtype of kidney cancer and is often diagnosed at advanced stages. PIEZO1, a mechanosensitive ion channel, has been implicated in cancer progression, but its prognostic relevance in ccRCC remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the expression pattern of PIEZO1 in ccRCC and its association with clinicopathological characteristics and patient survival.
