Article Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate if an 8-week high-volume protocol of the Adductor Strengthening Programme was more effective than a low-volume protocol in increasing and maintaining isometric hip adduction strength in female football players. We randomized 52 players from the Norwegian women's 1st and 2nd division to a low-volume (220 reps/side) or high-volume (394 reps/side) group. Both groups performed an 8-week protocol of the Adductor Strengthening Programme and a 10-week maintenance protocol with 1 session/week (16 reps/side/session). We measured isometric hip adductor torque (Nm/kg) in a long-lever squeeze test (at 0° and 15° hip abduction) using the ForceFrame at baseline, weeks 4, 6, 8, and 18. Both groups increased their isometric hip adduction strength over the 8-week period (low-volume 0°: 0.13 [95% CI: 0.07-0.20] Nm/kg, 15°: 0.22 [95% CI: 0.07-0.36] Nm/kg; high-volume 0°: 0.13 [95% CI: 0.04-0.22] Nm/kg, 15°: 0.31 [95% CI: 0.18-0.45] Nm/kg), with no between-group difference in either test position (0°: -0.01 [95% CI: -0.11-0.01] Nm/kg; 15°: 0.10 [95% CI: -0.09-0.29] Nm/kg). Also, both groups maintained their strength throughout the 10-week maintenance period, with no between-groups difference in either test position (0°: 0.12 [95% CI: -0.01-0.24] Nm/kg; 15°: 0.06 [95% CI: -0.11-0.23] Nm/kg). Our results indicate that an 8-week high-volume protocol of the Adductor Strengthening Programme was not more effective in increasing isometric adductor strength in female football players than a low-volume protocol. Both groups increased their strength over the 8-week training period and maintained their strength during the 10-week maintenance period. Trial registration: The study protocol was uploaded to Open Science Framework before unblinding and analyzing the data (https://osf.io/7xfw4/).

Ultrasound imaging of the hip is a highly valuable modality that enhances diagnostic precision and facilitates injection therapy with remarkable accuracy. This article reviews the use of ultrasound in various hip interventions, including intra-articular injections, iliopsoas and trochanteric bursa treatments, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve blocks, and interventions for adductor and hamstring tendinopathies. Comprehensive guidance is offered on probe selection, patient positioning, and step-by-step procedural protocols tailored for specific conditions and anatomical targets.

Individual and combined applied robotic hand rehabilitation and conventional rehabilitation for post-stroke hemiplegia: a prospective three-arm randomized study.

Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Istanbul, Türkiye.

Background: Conventional rehabilitation (CR) and robotic hand rehabilitation (RR) are effective rehabilitation options for post-stroke hemiplegia. Combining these two rehabilitation protocols may positively affect the results.

Aim: To compare the effectiveness of individual and combined applications of CR and RR on hand and upper extremity function, spasticity, grip and tip pinch strength in the treatment of post-stroke hemiplegia.

Background: Adductor canal blocks (ACBs) reduce postoperative pain and opioid consumption for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, whether the optimal timing of the placement is preoperatively or immediately postoperatively remains unclear. The postoperative placement of an adductor canal block was hypothesized to have more favorable outcomes.

Methods: From September 2023 to January 2024, patients undergoing TKA with one of two surgeons were randomized to the experimental (postoperative) or control (preoperative) group.

Advances in soft-tissue imaging and muscle reconstruction tools have greatly expanded our capacity to extract myological properties relating to function. Recently, the development of semi-autonomous fascicle tracking algorithms has permitted in situ measurements of fiber lengths and orientation. While these tools have been applied to postnatal, predominantly adult vertebrate specimens, their efficacy has not been demonstrated on embryonic specimens, which possess smaller and less developed muscle tissues.

: Power indices may provide valuable information for performance and injury prevention in soccer players, so increasing the knowledge about them seems essential. Therefore, this study aimed to establish limb-specific normative values for flywheel-derived power indices in professional soccer players, while accounting for limb performance or ability, to explore the relationships between power indices across variables and to compare the power outcomes related to these indices between injured and non-injured players within four months post-assessment. : Twenty-two male professional soccer players (age: 26.
