Introduction: CIP, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, is crucial for managing bacterial infections. Its efficacy relies on maintaining high-quality standards, which can be affected by manufacturing, regulatory oversight and storage practices. This study compares the quality of CIP preparations in Vietnam and Nigeria, two nations with contrasting regulatory frameworks, to assess compliance with pharmaceutical standards and identify risks from substandard or falsified medicines.
Methods: A total of 46 CIP preparations were analysed, 20 purchased from 13 vendors in Vietnam and 26 from 13 vendors in Nigeria. Data on vendor qualifications and storage conditions were collected. Antibacterial activity was tested using a modified disk diffusion assay, and content and purity were evaluated via reversed-phase HPLC.
Results: Vietnam's drug outlets showed stricter regulation, with 100% registration and 61.5% staffed by Bachelor of Pharmacy holders, compared with only 23.1% in Nigeria. Temperature and humidity monitoring was universal in Vietnam but minimal in Nigeria (23.1% and 15.4%, respectively). Antimicrobial testing confirmed effectiveness for all but one sample (Vietnam), while Nigerian samples had greater variability. Reversed-phase HPLC revealed seven Nigerian samples (26.9%) with <80% declared CIP content, all from one manufacturer. Median content was 91% in Vietnam and 88% in Nigeria, with most samples meeting purity standards.
Conclusions: The study highlights significant disparities in the regulation, storage practices and quality of CIP between Vietnam and Nigeria. These findings underscore the critical need for improved regulation, monitoring and enforcement in countries with weaker pharmaceutical oversight to ensure drug efficacy and safety.

Introduction: Key populations (KP), including men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, sex workers, transgender people and people in closed settings, are disproportionately affected by HIV and face structural and legal barriers to care. While community-led responses are central to reaching KP, services are often disease-specific and disconnected from national primary healthcare (PHC) systems. PHC, defined by WHO as a whole-of-society approach to delivering integrated and person-centred services, is rarely designed to meet the broader health needs of KP, who also experience high burdens of non-communicable diseases, mental health conditions and violence.

Objective: To revisit the VENTIlatory Strategies for Patients with Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (VENTILO) survey, focusing on ventilatory management practices among healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries.
Methodology: A cross-sectional on-line survey, VENTIlatory strategies for patients with severe traumatic brain injury in the LOw- and Middle-Income CountrieS (VENTILOMICS), was conducted using the original VENTILO survey questionnaire, developed following a review of literature on respiratory management in traumatic brain injury patients, captured demographics of participants, type of hospital/specialty and available neuromonitoring tools; protocols for mechanical ventilation and weaning, and respiratory management strategies. Descriptive statistics were computed for all study variables.

Alcohol taxation is a key policy to reduce consumption and alcohol harm but evidence on tax design and indicators to assess taxation policy are lacking. Tax design and two indicators: tax as a share of lowest retail price and affordability, were investigated in eight high-income and nine middle-income jurisdictions. Collaborators populated the International Alcohol Control (IAC) study online Alcohol Policy Tool, providing measures of tax design, tax rates; and typical lowest prices available for retail take-away alcohol.

There are four major lineages of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) whose geographic ranges vary considerably. Mtb lineage 2 (L2) or the East Asia lineage is particularly common in East and Southeast Asia, and also reported worldwide. Most L2 isolates belong to a sublineage L2.

Background: The optimal dosing strategy of linezolid for treating multidrug-resistant and rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis remains unclear. We conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to determine the optimal linezolid dosing strategy.
Methods: We searched for randomised controlled trials and prospective cohort studies on short-course all‑oral regimens containing linezolid for treating multidrug-resistant and rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis in PubMed, Embase and Scopus up to 31 August 2023.
