Dopamine (DA) regulates behavioral activation and effort-related aspects of motivation. Blockade of DA storage by tetrabenazine (TBZ) induces depressive symptoms in humans, including fatigue and apathy. TBZ shifts choice behavior in rodents from high-effort to low-effort options, which can be used to model motivational symptoms observed in psychiatric disorders.

Introduction: Cannabidiol (CBD) is a widely utilized nonpsychoactive cannabinoid available as an over-the-counter supplement, a component of medical cannabis, and a prescriptive treatment of childhood epilepsies. In vitro studies suggest CBD may inhibit a number of drug-metabolizing enzymes, including carboxylesterase 1 (CES1). The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of CBD on the disposition of the CES1 substrate methylphenidate (MPH).

Background: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can be comorbid with depression, often leading to the prescription of both methylphenidate (MP) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants, such as fluoxetine (FLX). Moreover, these drugs are often misused as cognitive enhancers. This study examined the effects of chronic oral co-administration of MP and FLX on depressive- and anxiety-like behaviors.
