: Ultrafiltration (UF) is widely accepted as a method for assessing the plasma protein binding (PPB) of drugs. However, it is vulnerable to non-specific binding (NSB) to the device, which can result in inaccuracies. This study presents a straightforward, high-throughput modified UF method aimed at minimizing bias due to NSB. : The modified UF method, sequential UF, features the addition of a 2 min pre-UF phase designed to saturate the NSB in the device, followed by the main 20 min UF procedure, compared to the conventional UF method. To evaluate the feasibility of this sequential UF method, we measured the PPB of nine compounds using sequential UF and compared these results to those obtained with the conventional mass balance UF method, recognized as a standard for NSB correction. : The PPB values determined through sequential UF were generally consistent with those derived from the mass balance UF method. The fold differences ranged from 97.9% to 113.8%, with an average of 103.5%. No significant differences were observed between the two methods for all compounds, with the exception of quercetin, which showed an unusually high PPB. : Sequential UF was effective in correcting NSB to the device while providing advantages in terms of simplicity and efficiency.

Efficient capture and separation of target bacteria in complex food matrices remain challenging due to non-specific binding (NSB) of bacteria to the surface of carrier particles. This study investigates the role of surface functionalities in modulating NSB to develop a highly specific, antibody-based magnetic separation system for Salmonella Typhimurium in whole milk. NSB was primarily driven by coordination between exposed surface iron and phosphate groups on bacterial membranes.

The transfer of chemicals from packaging or medical devices to drug formulations, known as extractables and leachables (E&L) release, can affect drug strength and safety. These released substances must be monitored and assessed through toxicological evaluation. Identifying and quantifying analytes above a specific analytical evaluation threshold (AET) is crucial, but variability in response factors (RFs) complicates accurate detection, leading to potential errors in quantitation.

Objective: A conservative definition of diagnostic yields for assessing the performance of guided bronchoscopy has been proposed, but it has yet to be validated in practice.
Methods: Patients who underwent radial endobronchial ultrasound (R-EBUS) between April 2020 and April 2023 were included in the study. Diagnostic results were classified as malignant or non-malignant based on the post-lung-biopsy pathology.

The advancement of rechargeable zinc-air batteries (ZABs) faces significant challenges, particularly due to substantial polarization and the slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Multi-element doping represents an effective strategy to address the deficiencies in catalytic activity and stability observed in single-atom catalysts. In this study, we prepare an activated lignin carbon catalyst doped with three elements (N, S, and B) via salt assisted (KOH), referred to as AL-NSB, with the aim is to achieve bifunctional catalysis through the synergistic interaction between the three elements to influence the distribution of the electron cloud and the extent of carbonaceous defects within the catalyst.
