Theranostics, the practice of using a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical to guide radiotherapy with a chemically identical (or nearly identical) therapeutic radiopharmaceutical, is an exciting new field under development within the auspices of nuclear medicine. We aim to provide a narrative review of the areas of theranostics use and development which are occurring specifically in the head and neck, with attention to the therapeutic use of existing diagnostically used radiotracers such as agents that target prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and somatostatin receptors (e.g., DOTATATE derivatives), as well as developing classes of radiotracers such as those targeting fibrinogen-activating protein (FAP) and carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX), as well as new -iodo-benzylguanidine (MIBG) derivatives. Most of those agents are still at the preclinical or early clinical stages of development, but as this is an emerging field, we aim to both outline current progress and suggest future directions.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a significant public health burden in developing countries, where access to early diagnosis, comprehensive care, and research infrastructure is limited. This article synthesizes the insights generated during a Fireside Chat convened by members of the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group (LACOG)-Head and Neck and the Brazilian Group of Head and Neck Cancer (GBCP), with the participation of international expert Professor Hisham Mehanna. The discussion addressed key challenges and opportunities in clinical and translational research within resource-constrained settings.

Purpose: To describe the clinical and multimodal imaging features of a novel form of macular neovascularization (MNV), designated Type 4 MNV, defined by mixed Type 1 and Type 2 neovascularization (NV), extensive intraretinal anastomotic NV, and central posterior hyaloid fibrosis (CPHF).
Methods: This multicenter retrospective observational case series included patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) exhibiting both Type 1 and 2 MNV and an overlying anastomotic intraretinal NV network. This was confirmed with OCT and OCT angiography (OCTA).

Chronic inflammation and microbial dysbiosis have been implicated in the development of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), particularly oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the progressive destruction of tooth-supporting structures.
