Article Abstract

Endoscopic evaluation is valuable in the diagnosis, assessment, and management of Crohn's disease (CD). The Simple Endoscopic Score for CD (SES-CD) was created using a uniform, linear scoring scale of 0-3 for each of its 4 parameters at 5 anatomic locations and was designed to accurately indicate disease severity rather than predicting disease progression. There is evidence to suggest that all disease segments and parameters of the SES-CD do not have equal prognostic value for likelihood of achieving endoscopic remission. The Modified Multiplier SES-CD, developed by multivariable logistic regression modeling, weighs the individual parameters of the SES-CD including disease distribution based on their prognostic values for achieving endoscopic remission. The objective of this qualitative review is to provide guidance to clinicians and clinical trialists for how to use and interpret the Modified Multiplier SES-CD.

Background: A simple screening tool is needed for resource-limited settings because rapid treatment is crucial in sepsis. We investigated whether a simplified score, the reverse shock index multiplied by the Glasgow Coma Scale score (rSIG), could replace the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) or the quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) for sepsis screening.

Methods: We used data from a Japanese multicenter prospective observational study.

High-nickel layered oxide LiNiCoMnO (NCM, ≥ 0.8) materials are considered optimal cathodes for lithium-ion power batteries owing to their high energy density, commendable cycling performance, and cost-effectiveness. However, structural collapse and interface instability during cycling result in diminished cycling stability, significantly hindering their commercial viability.

PEST++IES (White 2018; White et al. 2020) is widely used in the groundwater modeling community for its ability to perform computationally efficient history matching and uncertainty analysis in a highly parameterized context. One primary advantage of using an iterative ensemble smoother is that the number of model runs required per iteration depends on the number of realizations in an ensemble, not the number of parameters in each realization.

Background: Adaptive thermogenesis represents a metabolic adaptation that reduces energy expenditure beyond what is expected from changes in fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) following continuous energy restriction (CER). This phenomenon may impair long-term weight loss maintenance. Emerging evidence suggests that modulation of the gut microbiota may influence energy metabolism, yet the impact of probiotic supplementation on adaptive thermogenesis in humans remains unclear.
