Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by persistent inflammation and is often associated with poor oral health. Cytokines play a central role in RA immunopathogenesis. This case-control study investigated the involvement of salivary interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and interleukin-18 (IL-18) in RA patients in relation to oral health status.

Background: Electrical impedance myography (EIM) has been proposed as an efficient, non-invasive biomarker of muscle composition in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD).
Objective: We investigate whether EIM parameters are associated with muscle structure measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), muscle histology, and transcriptomic analysis as well as strength at the individual leg muscle level.
Methods: We performed a multi-center cross-sectional study enrolling 33 patients with FSHD.

Background: Bedside ultrasound is increasingly utilized to assess muscle mass in critically ill patients, providing a noninvasive and real-time tool for early risk stratification. Muscle wasting is known to be associated with adverse outcomes in septic shock, but its prognostic value using ultrasound in this population remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the association between changes in rectus femoris cross-sectional area (CSA), assessed by bedside ultrasound, and 28-day mortality in patients with septic shock.

The coexistence of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease (MASLD) gained recognition, but the diagnostic performance of non-invasive markers regarding it remains underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of the FIB-4 index for fibrosis prediction in CHB patients and investigate its performance in the distinct subgroup of CHB-MASLD. A prospective study from 2021 to 2022 included 109 CHB and 64 CHB-MASLD patients.

Liver biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosing FALD, but has limitations. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a popular non-invasive method for evaluating liver stiffness and fibrosis in FALD; however, no unified view exists.
