Article Abstract

Peptide-based folding systems have intriguing features with a variety of advanced applications. Rational and precise control over their dynamic folding behaviors and exploring the role in recognition of guests are conducive to construct adaptive molecular machines and host-guest chemistry. In this work, peptide arms were conjugated on the benzothiophene skeleton with a rotatable axis with terminated pyrene as luminescent signaling domains. The folding behaviors show adaptiveness toward solvation that impacts the expression on chirality and chiroptical properties by which the circularly polarized luminescence can be initiated. Beyond the signaling, pyrene domains function as chiral clamps to include aromatic imides by charge-transfer interaction with high selectivity. The size of the aromatic planes, steric effects, and electron deficiency determined the binding affinity. Supramolecular clamping of aromatic imides would disassociate the aggregation into complexes that invert the chirality. The study advances the design of flexible chiral molecular systems with applications in host-guest chemistry and chiroptical sensing.

Incorporating heteroatoms into π-conjugated aromatic cores enables the formation of robust self-assembled architectures by leveraging enhanced intermolecular interactions, including dipole-dipole, van der Waals, and σ-hole mediated non-covalent interactions. These improved self-assemblies are key for achieving superior performance in organic semiconductors. Herein, we present the rational design and synthesis of a selenium-annulated unsymmetrical perylene diester imide (PEI-SeST), wherein a swallow-tail moiety at the imide position, in concert with decyl substituents at the ester functionalities, stabilizes an enantiotropic columnar hexagonal liquid crystalline phase at ambient temperature, which is in contrast to the perylene ester imide derivative without a heteroatom.

The choice of the core cation structure can have significant effects on the suitability of a bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([TfN])-based room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) for a particular electrochemical application. While bulkier aliphatic cations (such as ammonium, phosphonium, piperidinium and pyrrolidinium) exhibit wider electrochemical windows (ECWs > 6 V) than sulfur containing cations and many aromatic cations, they are more viscous and, subsequently, have lower molar conductivities. Among RTILs with wide ECWs, pyrrolidiniums have the best molar conductivities (0.

Postgraduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nucleus of Chemical-Pharmaceutical Investigations, University of Vale do Itajaí, Rua Uruguai, 458, Itajaí, Centro, 88302-901, Brazil.

This study aimed to evaluate the potential antispasmodic activity of 15 cyclic imides, focusing on their effects on muscarinic receptor-mediated contractions and smooth muscle relaxation in isolated rat jejunum. The compounds were tested in vitro, with rats jejunal segments pre-contracted using acetylcholine to assess relaxant activity, and during acetylcholine-induced contractions to evaluate their inhibitory effects. Structural variations among the compounds included modifications in aromatic substituents, electronegativity, and steric hindrance, which were analyzed for their impact on biological activity.

Fluorescent organic nanoparticles (FONPs), exhibiting aggregation-induced emission (AIE), are emerging as superior sensors due to their easy fabrication, versatility, and biocompatibility. The present article delineates the detection of lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) by exploiting the AIE property of synthesized naphthalene diimide (NDI)-based amphiphile comprising an aromatic (Ar-Py-1, Ar-Py-2) and aliphatic (Al-Py) pyruvate moieties. Elevated expression of LDHA in cancer cells plays a crucial role in cancer progression through increased conversion of pyruvate to lactate.

The deamidation rate is relatively high for Asn residues with Phe as the C-terminal adjacent residue in γS-crystallin, which is one of the human crystalline lens proteins. However, peptide-based experiments indicated that bulky amino acid residues on the C-terminal side impaired Asn deamination. In this study, we hypothesized that the side chain of Phe affects the Asn deamidation rate and investigated the succinimide formation process using quantum chemical calculations.
