Streptococcal infections, caused by species such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus mutans, represent a major global health concern, particularly in the face of rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Conventional treatments-including vaccines and antibiotics-are increasingly compromised by factors such as genetic variability, biofilm formation, and drug resistance mechanisms. In this context, plant-derived oils emerge as promising alternatives due to their broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and complex phytochemical profiles that hinder resistance development.

Purpose: The perioperative period is characterized by psychological stress and inflammatory reactions that can contribute to disease recurrence or metastatic spread. These reactions are mediated particularly by catecholamines and prostaglandins. The PROSPER trial aimed to evaluate whether a perioperative drug repurposing with a non-selective betablocker (propranolol) and a COX-2 inhibitor (etodolac) is feasible and safe in the setting of pancreatic cancer surgery.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major source of chronic pain and disability, representing a significant global health concern that affects 10-15 % of individuals aged over 60, with a higher prevalence among females than males. This investigation aimed to evaluate the impact of a dietary supplement containing collagen peptides (MW 1-3 kDa) on knee OA symptoms and inflammatory biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Adults aged 30-81 years (50 % female) with grade II or III OA and a minimum pain score of 40 on the 0 to 100 visual analogue scale (VAS) were enrolled.
