Article Abstract

Breaking both inversion and time reversal symmetry could lead to nonreciprocal current transport in a superconductor, where current is dissipationless in one direction and dissipative in the opposite direction, which is called the superconducting diode effect (SDE). We studied SDE in the type-II Weyl semimetal -MoTe that is covered with Al nanoparticles. Asymmetric - characteristics have been measured under a magnetic field. The superconducting diode efficiency reaches as high as 30%. Besides SDE under the out-of-plane field, nonreciprocal supercurrent transport under the in-plane field has been observed. Intriguingly, the maximum SDE occurs in the in-plane field parallel to the current direction, which contradicts present theories. Our work provides further understanding of the origins of the SDE.

Two-dimensional (2D) superconductors are known for their novel emergent phenomena, however, lack of experimental probes beyond resistivity has hindered further exploration of diverse superconducting states. Bulk 2D superconductors, with superconducting layers separated by non-superconducting layers, offer a unique opportunity to break this limit. Here, we synthesized a single crystal of misfit layered compound (PbSe)(NbSe), composed of alternately stacked tri-layer NbSe and non-superconducting block layers with incompatible unit cells.

Perfect Superconducting Diode Effect in Altermagnets.

Phys Rev Lett

Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Box 516, S-751 20 Uppsala, Sweden.

We investigate intrinsic superconducting diode effect in the unconventional superconducting state of d-wave altermagnets. We find large diode efficiencies in the wide-reaching finite-momentum pairing regimes of the phase diagram. Remarkably, even perfect diode efficiency of 100% can be obtained in the presence of an external magnetic field.

Four-terminal Josephson junctions: diode effects, anomalous currents and transverse currents.

We study a multi-terminal Josephson junction consisting of a central spin-orbit-coupled (SOC) region with an in-plane Zeeman field connected to four superconducting terminals. This setup allows for the simultaneous measurement of both longitudinal and transverse Josephson currents in response to a phase bias and provides a platform to probe the planar Hall effect in superconducting transport. We find that the system exhibits anomalous Josephson effect (AJE) and Josephson diode effect (JDE) when the symmetry between opposite momentum modes is broken in SOC region.

Continuous and non-invasive monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF) is essential for managing acute brain injuries. Time-domain diffuse correlation spectroscopy (TD-DCS) enables depth-sensitive microvascular blood flow assessment using time- of-flight information in diffuse media like living tissue. This paper presents recent developments in TD-DCS using superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) and high-density single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays.

Field-Free Superconducting Diode Effect in Layered Superconductor FeSe.

Phys Rev Lett

June 2025

Kyoto University, Department of Electronic Science and Engineering, Kyoto, Kyoto 615-8510, Japan.

The superconducting diode effect (SDE), where zero-resistance states appear nonreciprocally during current injection, is receiving tremendous interest in both fundamental and applied physics because the SDE is a novel manifestation of symmetry breaking and enables the creation of a novel diode. In particular, magnetic-field-free SDEs have been extensively investigated because of their potential to serve as building blocks for superconducting circuit technology. In this Letter, we report the field-free SDE in a layered superconductor, FeSe.
