The advent of the purpose-built da Vinci single-port robotic platform marks a pivotal advancement in minimally invasive urological surgery. Designed to overcome the ergonomic and technical limitations of prior single-site approaches, the single-port system enables complex procedures through a single incision, with enhanced dexterity, optimized use of confined spaces and improved cosmetic and peri-operative outcomes. The single-port system has been increasingly used across a wide range of urological indications, including robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy and reconstructive surgeries such as pyeloplasty and ureteral re-implantation.

Background: Our European tertiary referral center implemented robot-assisted minimally invasive gastrectomy (RAMIG) in September 2020, following experience with robot-assisted esophagectomy and multiquadrant surgery using the DaVinci Xi robot. RAMIG implementation was evaluated.

Methods: This single-center prospective cohort study compared 111 MIG patients (2014-2023) with the initial 75 RAMIG patients (2020-2023), operated by two experienced robotic upper-GI surgeons.

The commercialization of new robotic platforms has transformed the field of robotic surgery, with the Hugo™ RAS system from Medtronic standing out due to its open console and modular design. Hugo™ offers advantages, such as improved communication and ergonomics, and flexibility for multi-quadrant surgeries. However, its clinical experience in General Surgery remains limited and concentrated in a small number of studies.

Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a rare inherited disorder that is characterized by the formation of multiple adenomatous polyps in the colon that are precancerous. Diagnosis of the disease is of utmost importance in patients with a history of FAP, and prophylactic fibrocolonoscopies should be performed as early as the teenage years. This rare but significant genetic condition usually manifests in late adolescence or early adult years.

Minimally Invasive One-Docking, Two-Target, and Three-Port Robotic-Assisted Nephroureterectomy: Redefining Surgical Approach.

Cancers (Basel)

February 2025

Department of Urology, Soroka University Medical Center, Faculty of Health Science, Ben-Gurion University of Negev, P.O. Box 151, Beer Sheva 84101, Israel.

Objective: Nephroureterectomy (NU) is a challenging multi-quadrant surgical procedure that involves intra-infra- and retroperitoneal dissection. The introduction of the da Vinci Xi platform has further improved the minimally invasive approach. With the Xi robotic system, single docking for multi-quadrant dissection is now feasible and increasingly popular.
