Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by social deficits and restricted behaviors, with developmental defects in GABAergic circuits proposed as a key underlying etiology. Here, we introduce the V-Y assay, a novel space preference test in which one arm of the Y-maze is initially hidden and later revealed as a novel space. Using an ASD mouse model with haploinsufficiency, which exhibits ASD-like social impairments that can be either exacerbated or ameliorated by GABAergic circuit manipulations, we observed impaired novel space preference and exploratory behavior in the V-Y assay. Interestingly, unlike social phenotypes, novel space preference was initially established by 3 weeks of age but regressed by 6 weeks. Furthermore, alterations in GABAergic signaling via mutation did not affect novel space preference, in contrast to their impact on social behaviors. These findings reveal that the regression of novel space preference in ASD follows a distinct developmental trajectory from GABA-driven social impairments, providing new insights into the mechanisms underlying ASD.

Introduction: Spatial hearing enables both voluntary localization of sound sources and automatic monitoring of the surroundings. The auditory looming bias (ALB), characterized by the prioritized processing of approaching (looming) sounds over receding ones, is thought to serve as an early hazard detection mechanism. The bias could theoretically reflect an adaptation to the low-level acoustic properties of approaching sounds, or alternatively necessitate the sound to be localizable in space.

Three novel tellurate halides CdTeOX (X = Cl, Br, I) were rationally designed by introducing planar [TeO] into the binary anionic compounds, and synthesized by the flux method in sealed systems. The compounds crystallize in the centrosymmetric 2/ space group and show a layered 3D structure built by pyramid-shaped [CdOX] (X = Cl, Br, I), octahedral [CdO], and triangular [TeO] units. The compounds belong to a new emerging oxyhalide family, AII5BIV4OII12XI2, and the pseudo-ternary phase diagram of the CdO-TeO-CdX system is provided.

There is surprisingly little age-critical research on Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea (1952), even though the novella seems like an obvious choice for age studies. This article reviews foundational concepts and approaches in age studies on gender, performativity, creativity and space and brings them into dialog with The Old Man and the Sea. In the first part, the representation of older age and gender is emphasized through an analysis of the intersectional and performative nature of the old man's aging masculinity, including a focus on the aesthetic choices which contribute to the novella's semantic complexity.

Purpose: To describe the clinical and multimodal imaging features of a novel form of macular neovascularization (MNV), designated Type 4 MNV, defined by mixed Type 1 and Type 2 neovascularization (NV), extensive intraretinal anastomotic NV, and central posterior hyaloid fibrosis (CPHF).
Methods: This multicenter retrospective observational case series included patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) exhibiting both Type 1 and 2 MNV and an overlying anastomotic intraretinal NV network. This was confirmed with OCT and OCT angiography (OCTA).
