Article Abstract

Small-section steel-shell concrete immersed tube tunnels are intended for minibuses and have a low fire heat release rate. Standard fire rise curves do not apply to such tunnels. In this study, a coupled method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the finite element method (FEM) was used to simulate the structural temperature distribution in tunnels. Firstly, a tunnel fire dynamics model was established to obtain the inhomogeneous temperature field during tunnel fires. Subsequently, a three-dimensional heat transfer analysis model for the tunnel tube section was established to simulate the temperature transfer characteristics of the tunnel structure with and without fire protection measures under different types of vehicle fires. This study showed that because steel has a higher thermal conductivity, at the same depth, the temperatures were the highest in T-ribs, followed by partitions, and the lowest in concrete; however, the steel components inside the tunnel minimally affected the tunnel temperature. Without fire protection, the steel shell's surface temperature exceeded 300 °C in as little as 500 s. Temperature's primary impact on the tunnel's steel structure was within 30 cm of the steel shell's surface, and on concrete, it was within 20 cm. The greatest temperature difference between the partition and concrete occurred 10 cm from the steel shell's surface. These results fill the knowledge gap on heat transfer in these tunnels and have positive practical significance for the fire resistance design of tunnels.

Anomalous expansion of interatomic distance in liquid Al-Zn alloy during cooling.

The structural and physical/chemical properties of metallic materials are closely linked to the composition and configuration of their molten state. In this study, the evolution of the local structure in Al-Zn alloys with varying compositions during the quenching process was investigated using on-the-fly machine learning force field (MLFF) simulations based on ab initio molecular dynamics. The results indicate that the first coordination shell of the Al-Zn alloy melt undergoes an anomalous expansion within a specific temperature range, which deviates from the previously reported linear negative expansion, such as metallic Al, Zn, and Sn.

It is crucial to improve the calculation efficiency of internal blast loads of a long-span spatial steel structure. This study develops an equivalent model for such loads using a one-way inclined single-layer cylindrical lattice shell structure as a case study. First, ANSYS/LS-DYNA was used to simulate free-air blasts and benchmark against experimental data, with peak overpressure errors below 8%, confirming the modeling approach and material parameters.

To enhance synergistic therapeutic efficiency of tumor photothermal-thermodynamic-chemotherapy and address challenges of limited laser penetration, uneven heating, and poor temporal coordination among therapeutic modalities, we fabricated a photomicroneedle (PMN) system consisting of an optical fiber integrated into a perforated stainless-steel microneedle, in which the laser delivered via the PMN is emitted both from the tip and the sidewalls, enabling uniform intratumoral irradiation. The PMN-assisted tumor continuous high-intensity photothermal-thermodynamic alternate cycle therapy and chemotherapy strategy that consistently keeps over 90% tumor cell death within 48 h was developed. To implement this strategy, dual-layer nanocomposites were engineered by self-assembling IR825 and doxorubicin (DOX) into core nanoparticles (Dp825 NPs), which were then encapsulated in polydopamine (PDA)-Fe(III)-folic acid (FA) infinite coordination polymer (ICP) shell loaded with artesunate (ARS), forming nanocomposites (Dp825:ARS@PDA-Fe(III)-FA ICP NCPs).

Digital twin models utilising point cloud data have received significant attention for efficient bridge maintenance and performance assessment. There are some studies that show finite element (FE) models from point cloud data. While most of those approaches focus on modelling by solid elements, modelling of some civil structures, such as bridges, requires various uses of beam and shell elements.
