Carbon aerogels and xerogels, with their 3D porous architectures, ultralow density, high surface area, and excellent conductivity, have emerged as multifunctional materials for energy and environmental applications. This review highlights recent advances in the synthesis of these materials polymerisation, drying, and carbonisation, as well as the role of novel precursors such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and biomass. Emphasis is also placed on doped and metal-decorated carbon gels as efficient electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reactions, enabling four- and two-electron pathways for energy conversion and the production of green HO, respectively.

Background: Advancements in healthcare have significantly improved the prospect of patients with CHD, with over 97% now surviving adulthood. This growing population requires lifelong care and support to manage their condition. Digital health innovations, such as the "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) tool, aim to empower patients and improve collaboration with clinicians.

Background: Over the past decade, calls for research assessment reform have grown, led by initiatives such as the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and the Leiden Manifesto, and, more recently, the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). A key element being discussed as part of research assessment reform is a shift towards more qualitative assessments, focussed on the content of research and the broad skills and competencies of researchers, and the array of contributions they make to knowledge creation and innovation. Narrative CV formats have emerged as a good practice example for enabling qualitative assessments of research projects and researchers, and are becoming more widely piloted and implemented.

The Epigenetic Regulation of Agronomic Traits and Environmental Adaptability in Brassicas.

Plant Cell Environ

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of North China Crop Improvement and Regulation, Key Laboratory of Vegetable Germplasm Innovation and Utilization of Hebei, Ministry of Education of China-Hebei Province Joint Innovation Center for Efficient Green Vegetable Industry, International Joint R & D Center of Hebei Prov

As essential sources of vegetables, oilseeds, and forage, Brassica crops exhibit complex epigenetic regulation mechanisms involving histone modifications, DNA modifications, RNA modifications, noncoding RNAs, and chromatin remodelling. The agronomic traits and environmental adaptability of crops are regulated by both genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, while epigenetic variation can affect plant phenotypes without changing gene sequences. Furthermore, the impact of epigenetic modifications on plant phenotype has accelerated the crop breeding process.

The physical environment exerts a profound influence on microbial life. The directional movement of cells in response to their physical environment is understood as taxis, which has been studied in biology as chemotaxis, phototaxis, gravitaxis and so forth. These taxis are induced by physiological, physical or both factors.
