An automated method was developed to simultaneously measure primary amines and short-chain aldehydes emission from foam and rubber samples in one experiment. The technique involved dynamic solid-phase microextraction (SPME) on-fiber derivatization coupled with a flow-cell unit. The parameters of the dynamic SPME on-fiber derivatization method were optimized, including SPME coating, derivatization agents loading temperature, loading time, and dynamic SPME extraction time. The linearity range for the four primary amines and three aldehydes ranged from 0.5 to 100 µg/m and 0.9 to 1050 µg/m, respectively. The amines and aldehydes' quantitation limits (LOQ) were determined as 0.22-0.27 µg/m and 0.10-0.18 µg/m, respectively. Compared to previous methods, this approach is efficient, labor-saving, and allows researchers to concurrently analyze the emission trends of aldehydes and amines in one experiment.

Drought stress affects plant growth and production. To cope with drought stress, plants induced physiological and metabolic changes, serving as a protective approach under drought-stress conditions. The response to drought can vary based on plant type (C3 vs.

We report Lewis acid-catalyzed direct conversion of carboxylic acids into primary amides and nitriles using bis(trimethylsilyl)amine as an ammonia surrogate. With 1.1 equiv of bis(trimethylsilyl)amine, ytterbium(III) and hafnium(IV) triflates efficiently catalyzed the reaction, affording various primary amides in high yields with a broad substrate scope.

Biogenic amines (BAs) are organic nitrogen compounds formed through microbial decarboxylation of amino acids during food spoilage and biological metabolism. Therefore, the development of rapid, selective, and cost-effective detection strategies for BAs is significant for ensuring food safety and quality. In this study, a new dicyanoisophorone-based fluorescent probe (IPC) was developed, capable of fluorescence detection of aliphatic primary amines (e.

This study investigates the HO and CO sorption behavior of two chemically distinct polystyrene-divinylbenzene-based ion exchange sorbents: a primary amine and a permanently charged strong base quaternary ammonium (QA) group with (bi)carbonate counter anions. We compare their distinct interactions with HO and CO through simultaneous thermal gravimetric, calorimetric, gas analysis, and molecular modeling approaches to evaluate their performance for dilute CO separations like direct air capture. Thermal and hybrid (heat + low-temperature hydration) desorption experiments demonstrate that the QA-based sorbent binds both water and CO more strongly than the amine counterparts but undergoes degradation at moderate temperatures, limiting its compatibility with thermal swing regeneration.

Transcutaneous devices such as dental implants frequently fail due to infections at their interfaces with epithelial tissues. These infections are facilitated by the lack of integration between the devices and the surrounding soft tissues. This study aims to improve epithelial integration through surface modification of a transcutaneous implant material (polyetheretherketone (PEEK)).
