Article Abstract

Purpose: To study clinical features, anatomical and visual outcomes in eyes having rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) as the presenting feature of acute retinal necrosis (ARN).

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with ARN (active/healed) and concomitant RD at the presenting visit.

Results: The median age of patients was 36 years, with a male preponderance (9:1). Bilateral ARN was observed in 60% of cases, with 50% of patients testing positive for human immunodeficiency virus. The duration between the onset of symptoms and presentation was 3.66 ± 2.26 weeks. At presentation, 53.3% of eyes had active retinitis. Vitreoretinal surgery with silicone oil tamponade was performed for 14 eyes. Visual acuity significantly improved in 3 months (P = 0.0027). Poor visual outcomes were associated with optic nerve involvement. The mean duration of silicone oil tamponade was 7.41 ± 4.48 months. Complications included recurrent RD (14.29%), epiretinal membranes (14.29%), cystoid macular edema (21.4%), and retinal scarring with atrophy.

Conclusion: ARN with RD at presentation is a unique medical and surgical challenge, wherein good anatomical and functional outcomes could be achieved. The large size of retinitis and delayed presentation were the risk factors associated with poor visual outcomes.

Background: Migraine care is often suboptimal owing to undertreatment, variation in clinical outcomes and administration methods among existing treatments, and between- and within-individual heterogeneity in the clinical course of migraine. In response to these challenges, preference studies have been increasingly conducted to inform treatment decision-making and development. However, gaps remain in understanding how treatment preferences have been assessed across different migraine studies.

Purpose: To investigate the images and treatment differences for Type IIIa atlantoaxial rotary dislocation (AARD) by comparing the imaging characteristics of patients with Type III and Type IIIa AARD.

Methods: The present study retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 35 patients who underwent posterior C1-C2 intra-articular fusion due to AARD from our hospital database. Among them, 23 patients were diagnosed with Type III AARD, while the remaining 12 patients were diagnosed with Type IIIa AARD.

The ability to detect small errors between sensory prediction in the brain and actual sensory feedback is important in rehabilitation after brain injury, where motor function needs to be restored. To date in the recent study, a delayed visual error detection task during upper limb movement was used to measure this ability for healthy participants or patients. However, this ability during walking, which is the most sought-after in brain-injured patients, was unclear.

Background: Accurate acetabular cup orientation in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is crucial for successful outcomes. Intraoperative fluoroscopy may be used to evaluate acetabular cup placement. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of purely visual estimation of cup inclination and anteversion using intraoperative fluoroscopy, considering different surgeon experience levels and cup designs.

Objective: To evaluate clinical and laboratory effectiveness of ultrasound treatment for purulent wounds.

Material And Methods: The study enrolled 46 patients with purulent wounds divided into the main group (23 patients, ultrasonic treatment) and the control group (23 patients, traditional treatment). We assessed treatment effectiveness considering visual data, quality of granulation tissue, wound defect area and marginal epithelialization, complete blood count and C-reactive protein.
