Itaconates available from renewable resources constitute a group of monomers that are used in several types of polymerizations. Their use in free-radical polymerizations (FRPs) is still limited due to the low propagation rate coefficients resulting in low polymerization rates and the occurrence of depropagation which is responsible for limited monomer conversion. Since FRP is considered very robust with few requirements concerning monomer purity, it is still interesting to investigate how itaconate FRP may become feasible. For this reason, copolymerizations of itaconates with other monomers well-suited for FRP are considered. In particular, copolymerization with acrylates appears to be interesting because the propagation rate of these monomers is high and depropagation is not operative at common polymerization temperatures. Copolymerizations of dibutyl and dicyclohexyl itaconate with butyl acrylate were performed to determine the copolymerization reactivity ratios required for tailoring copolymer composition. To limit the number of experiments, copolymerizations were carried out until high conversion and consumption of the individual monomers was obtained from H NMR spectroscopy and quantitative size-exclusion chromatography.

Oxidative stress has attracted attention as an indicator of exercise load. Minimizing the impact on the body is essential during underwater treadmill exercise. Here, we conducted an exploratory study of the effects of dermal suction, which has been reported to improve blood flow in healthy dogs, prior to underwater treadmill exercise.

Objective: Activation of NLRP3 inflammasome contributes to cardiac aging progression. Klotho, a recognised anti-aging protein, exerts protective effects against cardiac aging. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the protective effects of Klotho on D-galactose (D-gal)-induced cardiac aging and the underlying mechanisms.

Surface passivation of materials based on nanosized zero-valent iron (nZVI) limits the reductive reactivities of such materials at near-neutral pH. To overcome this, a reactivation strategy was developed involving adding aqueous Fe(II) to a silica-coated nZVI (nZVI@SiO) system, which markedly increased the nitrobenzene reduction efficiency. The Fe(0) core in nZVI@SiO acted as the main reductant, and Fe(II) sorbed to the SiO coating acted as a reactivating agent that facilitated electron conduction mainly through the 'chemi-conductor' mechanism.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes a high level of blood glutamate, which triggers host defense by activating oxidative stress and inflammation response. However, the concrete mechanism underlying its exacerbating effects on acute lung injury (ALI) severity remains unknown. In the present study, we aim to demonstrate the special role of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) in regulating glutamate-related inflammation signaling to facilitate the sustaining injury.

The immediate results of PCI were assessed according to the TIMI scale; complications were assessed both clinically, by the incidence of severe complications (major adverse cardiovascular events, MACE), and angiographically, by the incidence of early and late ST and SR, and de novo stenosis that developed during the two-year observation period.
