Article Abstract

Melanoma is a malignant tumor that develops from the melanocyte-containing epithelial lining of mucosal membranes. This case report highlights a patient who presented with an asymptomatic decrease in hemoglobin (HGB), which necessitated an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy that identified a necrotic ulcerating lesion on the greater curvature of the stomach, which was confirmed to be a primary malignant gastric melanoma upon biopsy. The multidisciplinary team (MDT) subsequently recommended subtotal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy. After subsequent surgical intervention, the tumor was successfully removed with clear margins. A successful multidisciplinary approach led to favorable postoperative outcomes, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis and management of rare presentations of melanoma.

S100 protein family members S100A8 and S100A9 function primarily as a heterodimer complex (S100A8/A9) in vivo. This complex has been implicated in various cancers, including gastric cancer (GC). Recent studies suggest that these proteins play significant roles in tumor progression, inflammation, and metastasis.

The Microbiome Shaping Cancer Development, Progression, and Therapeutic Response.

Physiol Genomics

September 2025

Department of Bioinformatics, University of Würzburg, Am Hubland, 97074 Würzburg , Germany.

The human microbiome is emerging as a key regulator of cancer biology, modulating tumor development, immune dynamics, and therapeutic responses across diverse malignancies. In this review, recent insights are synthesized regarding how microbial communities (bacterial, fungal, and viral) shape oncogenic signaling, immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) efficacy, and metabolic reprogramming in lung, pancreatic, colorectal, breast, cervical, melanoma, and gastric cancers. Mechanistic links between microbial metabolites, intratumoral colonization, and host immune phenotypes are highlighted proposing that the microbiome constitutes a programmable axis within the tumor immune-metabolic ecosystem.

Department of Rheumatology, Korea University College of Medicine, 73 Goryeodae-ro, Seongbuk-gu, 02841, Seoul, Korea (Republic of).

Objective: To evaluate standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of cancer in patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV).

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies from Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases (inception to May 2025) was performed. Pooled SIRs were analyzed overall and by region, sex, age, AAV subtype, and cancer type.

Comprehensive analysis of MAGE-A10 in pan-cancer and its validation in gastric cancer.

Department of Surgical Oncology, Tumor Hospital, The General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, No. 804, Shengli South Street, Xingqing District, Yinchuan, China.

Previous studies found that melanoma antigen genes (MAGE) were antigens expressed in various tumor cells but hardly expressed in normal tissues, and their unique expression pattern made them highly promising for cancer immunotherapy. MAGE-A10 was a member of the MAGE family, and although it was expressed in various tumors, its specific function remained unclear. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of MAGE-A10 expression, prognostic value, DNA methylation, genetic variation, function, immune infiltration, and drug sensitivity using multiple public databases.

Widening socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence and related potential to reduce cancer between 2008 and 2019 in Germany.

Sci Rep

September 2025

Division of Social Determinants of Health, Department of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring, Robert Koch Institute, Nordufer 20, 13353, Berlin, Germany.

Background Cancer is one of the main causes of a high burden of disease and one of the strongest contributors to earlier mortality among lower socioeconomic groups in Germany. Therefore, studying socio-economic inequalities in cancer incidence is of high relevance from a public-health and health-equity lens. The aim of this study was to examine in more depth time trends in socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence and the related potential for reducing the incidence of specific cancers across Germany.
