Anatase titanium dioxide (TiO) has drawn great attention as an anode material in sodium ion batteries (SIBs), but it suffers from the sluggish diffusion kinetics of Na within TiO and inferior electronic conductivity. Herein, under the guidance of density functional theory (DFT), we propose a nitrogen and selenium dual-doped TiO system as an advanced SIB anode. Both DFT and experimental investigations reveal the cooperative effect of dopants in boosting the electrochemical performance of TiO, finding the optimal content ratio (N/Se at 1:3) for overall improved SIB performances. As expected, experimental results exhibit excellent sodium storage behavior of the N,Se-doped TiO, including high discharge capacity (142 mAh g at 2 A g), good rate performance (82 mAh g at 20 A g), and ultralong cyclability (97% retention over 5000 cycles at 2 A g). Our study underscores the importance of dual-heteroatom doping in the rational design of advanced electrode materials.

Bioprotective LAB3 cells that produce bacteriocin-like substances were entrapped in 4% (w/w) sodium alginate matrices, either with or without 10% (w/w) sodium caseinate. The effects of bead formulation-alginate alone or combined with caseinate, with or without the addition of 20% (w/w) MRS broth or M17 broth-on the culturability of LAB3 cells within the beads and their anti activity were assessed over 12 days of storage at 30 °C in closed bottles. Calcium-alginate-caseinate beads supplemented with MRS broth proved most effective in preserving both culturability and anti- activity.

Fly ash (FA) landfills are overflowing with materials, and unexplored waste streams like waste spent garnet (WSG) and waste foundry sand (WFS) are often dumped in onsite storage spaces, limiting land availability for future use and exacerbating environmental concerns related to waste disposal. Therefore, this research proposes recycling FA to produce reclaimed FA (RFA) as a binder, replacing 40-60% of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and 30-50% of river sand (RS) with WSG and WFS to produce geopolymers. The performance of geopolymers was assessed under different curing regimes, including ambient-temperature curing (ATC), ambient-temperature water curing (AWC), high-temperature curing (HTC), and high-temperature water curing (HWC).

The polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish oil are prone to oxidation and have poor dispersibility, which limits their use in the food sector. In this work, oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) were prepared via high-speed homogenization. Anionic carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was assembled onto cationic ChNC-stabilized emulsion droplet surfaces via layer-by-layer self-assembly technology to construct ChNC/CMC (Ch-C) bilayer emulsions with rigid inner layer and flexible outer shell structures.

XXXXX recently added brain to its fentanyl analog testing method for 14 analogs (fluoroisobutyryl fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, acryl fentanyl, alfentanil, butyryl fentanyl, carfentanil, fentanyl, para-fluorofentanyl, furanyl fentanyl, methoxyacetyl fentanyl, norcarfentanil, norfentanyl, sufentanil, and valeryl fentanyl) and 3 U-series drugs (U-47700, U-48800, and U-49900). Brain is a protected and isolated organ with lower metabolic activity than other tissues, which can assist in interpreting results and preserving parent drug. Limited publications testing brain samples for fentanyl and fentanyl analogs exist and none describe homogenate stability for these analytes.
