Article Abstract

Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, plays a crucial role in various physiological functions and is becoming more popular for use in food products This review delves into the methods, benefits, and challenges associated with enriching food products with tryptophan. We explore innovative strategies to enhance the stability, reduce bitterness, and improve the palatability of tryptophan supplementation in food formulations. Among these strategies, the utilization of nano-emulsion systems emerge as a promising approach to encapsulate tryptophan, safeguarding it from environmental factors and enhancing its bioavailability. Additionally, we discuss the incorporation of antioxidants and the use of functional derivatives as alternative methods to mitigate degradation and enhance consumer acceptability. thorough examination of these strategies, this review aims to provide insights into maximizing the potential of tryptophan enrichment in food products while overcoming the associated challenges.

This study investigated the impact of dietary zeolite supplementation on growth, cecal microbiota and digesta viscosity, digestive enzymes, carcass traits, blood constituents, and antioxidant parameters of broilers. A completely randomized design was used with 240 one-day-old broiler chicks randomly assigned to three dietary treatments (0%, 1.5%, and 3% zeolite as a feed additive) with four replicates of 20 chicks each.

Background: Avenanthramides (AVAs) and Avenacosides (AVEs) are unique to oats (Avena Sativa) and may serve as biomarkers of oat intake. However, information regarding their validity as food intake biomarkers is missing. We aimed to investigate critical validation parameters such as half-lives, dose-response, matrix effects, relative bioavailability under single dose, and in relation to the abundance of Feacalibacterium prausnitzii, and under repeated dosing, to understand the potential applications of AVAs and AVEs as biomarkers of oat intake.

Hybrid breeding based on male sterility requires the removal of male parents, which is time- and labor-intensive; however, the use of female sterile male parent can solve this problem. In the offspring of distant hybridization between Brassica oleracea and Brassica napus, we obtained a mutant, 5GH12-279, which not only fails to generate gynoecium (thereby causing female sterility) but also has serrated leaves that could be used as a phenotypic marker in seedling screening. Genetic analysis revealed that this trait was controlled by a single dominant gene.

Agriculturally driven habitat degradation and destruction is the biggest threat to global biodiversity. Yet the impact of different foods and where they are produced on species extinction risks, and the mitigation potential of different interventions, remain poorly quantified. Here we link the LIFE biodiversity metric-a high-resolution global layer describing the marginal impact of land use on extinctions of ~30,000 vertebrate species-with food consumption and production data and provenance modelling.
