Probiotics are live beneficial microorganisms that confer health benefits to the host when administered in adequate amounts, have gained considerable scientific and commercial interest for their ability to support gut health, strengthen immunity, and reduce disease risk. This review traces the genesis of probiotic science from its origins in traditional fermented foods to contemporary clinical applications, offering a conceptual understanding of its evolution. A clear distinction is drawn between endogenous probiotics, naturally resident in the human microbiome, and exogenous probiotics, introduced via dietary supplements and functional foods.

Introduction: Patients with advanced solid tumors may be considered for early phase clinical trials investigating the safety, tolerability, and dosing of experimental therapies. Optimizing participant selection is critical to maximize clinical benefit and meet trial endpoints with fewer participants. One in six participants does not meet routine life expectancy requirements (>3 months), highlighting the need for improved prognostication.

Lung volume change modifies pharyngeal airway patency by altering breathing-related passive force transmission between lower and upper airways (via tracheal and other connections). We hypothesise that such force transmission may also impact active upper airway dilator muscle function by altering resting muscle length. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between end expiratory lung volume (EELV) and ability of sternohyoid muscle (SH) contraction to alter pharyngeal airway patency.

Operational improvement serves to attain organizational goals through standardization and responsible resource management. The nursing professional development (NPD) practitioner is well suited for this work due to their clinical knowledge, ability to educate others, and skills in collaboration. By assisting individual departments or the organization on a wider scale, the NPD practitioner serves to increase cost savings, maximize resource utilization, and decrease variances in patient care.

Antibacterial photodynamic therapy offers a promising approach for combating both susceptible and multidrug-resistant pathogens. However, conventional photosensitizers have limitations in terms of poor binding specificity and weak penetration for pathogens. In this study, we developed synergistic photobactericidal polymers that integrate hydrophilic toluidine blue O (TBO) with the lipophilic penetration enhancer citronellol (CT).
