Article Abstract

This editorial outlines the outcome of an interdisciplinary session on collective sense-making through dance improvisation, which took place during the 'Neural and Social Bases of Creative Movement' workshop. We argue that joint improvisation practices place the scientist in a privileged position to reveal the nature of cognitive and creative behaviors.

The digital transformation of music education has accelerated in recent years, raising questions about how online platforms contribute to students' creative and cultural competencies. This study assesses the long-term effects of an online music course on undergraduate learning outcomes in China. Conducted over two academic years (2022-2024), the research involved 287 students from a Chinese music college, randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 144) that completed the online course or a control group (n = 143) that followed a traditional curriculum.

The objective of this study was to explore the potential of using the generative neural network Dance2Dance to integrate elements of the traditional Tujia Baishou dance with modern choreography, specifically examining the impact of such technologies on the creative and improvisational skills of dance students. The findings indicate that the use of dance sequences generated by the Dance2Dance neural network increased the originality of dance performances by the experimental group students, with scores rising from 3.45 to 4.

Background: Body awareness (BA) and proprioception, which are essential components of the sense of agency (SA), are often altered in various mental disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the relationship between BA, proprioception, and SA, as well as the methods to manipulate them, remain unclear. This study explored using real-time gesture sonification (GS), i.

Collider-based movement detection and control of wearable soft robots for visually augmenting dance performance.

Front Robot AI

November 2024

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ, United States.

The fusion of wearable soft robotic actuators and motion-tracking sensors can enhance dance performance, amplifying its visual language and communicative potential. However, the intricate and unpredictable nature of improvisational dance poses unique challenges for existing motion-tracking methods, underscoring the need for more adaptable solutions. Conventional methods such as optical tracking face limitations due to limb occlusion.
