Article Abstract

Emphysematous liver abscesses usually present with fever and abdominal pain with radiological investigations showing air inside the abscess cavity and biochemical parameters suggestive of sepsis. This is a condition that needs urgent intervention, but it can present with variable presentations and the gas under the right dome of the diaphragm makes the diagnosis in dilemma, confusing it with hollow viscous perforation. Hereby we present a case series of variable presentations of emphysematous liver abscesses, successfully managed by timely intervention.

Emphysema is characterized by chronic alveolar destruction. Lipofibroblasts (LIF) are crucial in the stem cell niche surrounding alveolar type II (AT2) cells and may contribute to alveolar regeneration. We aim to determine whether emphysema is associated with LIF reduction and whether Sterol regulatory binding protein (SREBP) activation promotes LIF differentiation and fibroblast stem cell niche properties.

Background: Preeclampsia is a severe pregnancy-related disorder associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity. Its novelty in this case lies in the rare postdelivery complications of hepatic portal venous gas and emphysematous gastritis, conditions not previously linked to preeclampsia.

Case Presentation: We report the case of a 37-week-and-5-day pregnant Hispanic woman of Mexican origin (Gravida 2, Para 1) presenting with severe preeclampsia and hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets syndrome.
