Background & Aims: The value of serum albumin might be underestimated, especially in cancer patients. We thus aimed to evaluate the association between serum albumin level at hospital admission and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with cancer.
Methods: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional, and real-world data analysis. Hospitalized adult patients with malignant cancer were recruited from two tertiary hospitals. Serum level of albumin, which was measured within 24 h after hospital admission, was the exposure. Length of hospital stays (LOS) was the primary and all-cause in-hospital mortality was the secondary outcomes. Other information, including age, sex, types of cancer, history of hypertension and diabetes, surgery, blood routine test, liver and renal function, and dietary intake, were also abstracted from medical records.
Results: A total number of 5187 adult patients with cancer (2949 were men and 2238 women; average age 61.6 ± 12.4 years and average albumin 40.3 ± 5.2 g/L) were included. The prevalence of hypoalbuminemia was 12.2 % (634/5187). Older patients, patients with liver injury, anemia, and with high level of WBC were positively, while those with overweight and high level of total triglycerides, were negatively associated with hypoalbuminemia. After adjustment of covariates, hypoalbuminemia was significantly associated with longer LOS in the current study. The increase of 5 g/L in serum level of albumin could result in 1.09 days (95%CI: -1.38, -0.80 days) shorter in LOS. The increase of 5 g/L in serum level of albumin was also associated with 45 % lower in risk of mortality (OR = 0.55; 95 % CI: 0.43, 0.7) after fully adjustment.
Conclusions: Serum albumin level at admission was associated with both LOS and mortality in patients with malignant cancer.

The present study aimed to (1) evaluate the effects of different concentrations of the polysaccharide extract of Cissus sicyoides (PE-Cs) during in vitro culture of preantral follicles included in goat ovarian tissue on (i) follicular morphology and activation, (ii) ovarian stromal density, (iii) follicular and oocyte diameters, (iv) antioxidant enzymes activity (SOD, CAT, and GPx), (v) quantification of MDA, thiol, and nitrite levels; as well as to (2) measure the total antioxidant capacity of the extract. The ovarian cortex fragments were cultured at 39 °C in a humidified atmosphere with 5% CO for 6 d in alpha-modified minimum essential medium (αMEM) supplemented with insulin, transferrin, and selenium; hypoxanthine; glutamine; and bovine serum albumin, which was called αMEM alone or added of PE-Cs at 20, 40, or 80 µg/mL. At the end of the culture period, a reduction in the percentage of normal follicles in all treatments using PE-Cs compared to fresh control and αMEM.

Aims: Cardiac tumors are aggressive and asymptomatic in early stages, causing late diagnosis and locoregional metastasis. Currently, the standard of care uses gadolinium-based contrast agents for MRI, and the associated hypersensitivity reactions are a significant concern, such as gadolinium deposition disease. In addition, the proximity of cardiac lesions closer to vital structures complicates surgical interventions.

Donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) thiophene-based compounds, characterized by thiophene as a donor unit and benzothiadiazole (Bz) as an acceptor, represent an emerging class of theranostic agents for imaging and photodynamic therapy. Here, we expand this class of molecules by strategically varying the position of the electron-accepting unit within the oligothiophene (OT) backbone structure, realizing a series of different push-pull architectures (A-D, D-A-D, and D-A). This rational design allows for precise modulation of key photophysical parameters, including absorption and emission spectra, molar absorption coefficient, charge separation, and frontier molecular orbitals.

Effect of millimeter range electromagnetic waves (MM EMW) with the frequency 51.8 GHz on the interaction of DNA-specific ligands-intercalators acridine orange (AO) and methylene blue (MB) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been studied. The measurements were implemented by the spectroscopic methods that open new opportunities for such goals.

Embolization of the Arantius' duct is the first choice of treatment in infants and children. However, it carries the risk of coil migration into the systemic circulation in adult patients with larger Arantius ducts.
