Background: Ambulatory older residents in long-term care(LTC) have the highest risk of falling. However, the relationship between ambulatory activity (steps per day) and fall risk in LTC is unclear. This study examined whether baseline daily step count, functional capacity and cognitive function predicted falls in LTC residents, and whether functional capacity modified the relationship between step count and fall risk.

Physical neural networks (PNNs) are a class of neural-like networks that make use of analogue physical systems to perform computations. Although at present confined to small-scale laboratory demonstrations, PNNs could one day transform how artificial intelligence (AI) calculations are performed. Could we train AI models many orders of magnitude larger than present ones? Could we perform model inference locally and privately on edge devices? Research over the past few years has shown that the answer to these questions is probably "yes, with enough research".

Dr John Laragh, a pioneer in the field of hypertension, held a fundamental belief in the need to challenge existing dogmas in medicine to enhance our scientific understanding of disease and advance patient care. Perhaps in no area of hypertension does this ring truer with than primary aldosteronism (PA). Following its initial description in the mid-1950s with an initial surge in diagnoses soon thereafter, PA was ultimately relegated to be considered a "zebra" of hypertension felt to be responsible for only a small percentage of cases.

Its narrow therapeutic window necessitates regular blood lithium monitoring. Existing literature does not conclusively support the reliability of salivary or erythrocyte lithium measurements.

In this article, we explore how archaeological and historical perspectives can inform current marine management, protection and restoration efforts, and entice us to rethink our present-day relationships with ocean resources to secure sustainable management. Historical records, archaeological findings, palaeoecological data, local and traditional ecological knowledge are coming together in highly interdisciplinary ways, combining cutting-edge analytical and traditional methods. This research is producing more detailed and nuanced descriptions of past ecosystems that reveal the nature, scale and timing of human influences on the sea in unprecedented detail.
