Tupanviruses, members of the family , infect phagocytic cells. Particle uncoating begins inside the phagosome, with capsid opening via the stargate. The mechanism through which this opening takes place is unknown. Once phagocytized, metal ion flux control and ROS are induced to inactivate foreign particles, including viruses. Here, we studied the effect of iron ions, copper ions, and HO on Tupanvirus particles. Such treatments induced stargate opening , as observed by different microscopy techniques. Metal-treated viruses were found to be non-infectious, leading to the hypothesis that stargate opening likely resulted in the release of the viral seed, which is required for infection initiation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first description of a giant virus capsid morphological change induced by transition metals and HO, which may be important to describe new virulence factors and capsid uncoating mechanisms.

Single-stranded DNA bacteriophages of the family are major components of the global virosphere. Microviruses are highly abundant in aquatic ecosystems and are prominent members of the mammalian gut microbiome, where their diversity has been linked to various chronic health disorders. Despite the clear importance of microviruses, little is known about the molecular mechanism of host infection.

Background: Grapevine berries undergo asynchronous growth and ripening dynamics within the same bunch. Due to the lack of efficient methods to perform sequential non-destructive measurements on a representative number of individual berries, the genetic and environmental origins of this heterogeneity, remain nearly unknown. To address these limitations, we propose a method to track the growth and coloration kinetics of individual berries on time-lapse images of grapevine bunches.

A diverse assortment of molecules designed to explore the cannabinoid receptor system and considered new psychoactive substances (NPS) have become known as synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs). One group of SCRAs that has received little attention involves those exhibiting sulfamoyl benzoate, sulfamoyl benzamide, and N-benzoylpiperidine based structures. In this study, quinolin-8-yl 4-methyl-3-(piperidine-1-sulfonyl)benzoate (QMPSB), quinolin-8-yl 4-methyl-3-(morpholine-4-sulfonyl)benzoate (QMMSB), quinolin-8-yl 4-methyl-3-(piperidine-1-carbonyl)benzoate (QMPCB, SGT-11), quinolin-8-yl 3-(4,4-difluoropiperidine-1-sulfonyl)-4-methylbenzoate (2F-QMPSB, QMDFPSB, SGT-13), quinolin-8-yl 4-methyl-3-[(propan-2-yl)sulfamoyl]benzoate (QMiPSB, SGT-46), and 3-(4,4-difluoropiperidine-1-sulfonyl)-4-methyl-N-(2-phenylpropan-2-yl)benzamide (SGT-233) were extensively characterized (including data on impurities).
