Background: Musculoskeletal disease (MSD), including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and sarcopenia, poses a serious social burden. While physical activity (PA) benefits musculoskeletal health, the optimal PA level for MSD prevention remains unclear. Clarifying risk factors and biological mechanisms is essential.

Prognostic relevance of CT-defined body composition in esophageal cancer patients undergoing curative treatment.

Surg Oncol

September 2025

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, University Hospital Leipzig, Leipzig, Liebigstr. 20, 04103, Leipzig, Germany. Electronic address:

Introduction: Body composition including low skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) defined by skeletal muscle index (SMI) and subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue (SAT and VAT) can be assessed using cross-sectional imaging techniques. Previous studies have shown promising prognostic value for several tumour entities, including esophageal cancer (EC). The aim of this study was to analyse possible associations of body composition parameters in patients with esophageal cancer undergoing curative treatment.

Implementation of Fully Automated AI-Integrated System for Body Composition Assessment on Computed Tomography for Opportunistic Sarcopenia Screening: Multicenter Prospective Study.

JMIR Form Res

September 2025

Department of Medical Science, Asan Medical Institute of Convergence Science and Technology, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, 88 Olympic-ro 43-gil, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, 05505, Republic of Korea.

Background: Opportunistic computed tomography (CT) screening for the evaluation of sarcopenia and myosteatosis has been gaining emphasis. A fully automated artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated system for body composition assessment on CT scans is a prerequisite for effective opportunistic screening. However, no study has evaluated the implementation of fully automated AI systems for opportunistic screening in real-world clinical practice for routine health check-ups.

Introduction: Sarcopenia, a progressive age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, poses significant health risks in older adults. Phase angle (PhA), derived from bioimpedance analysis, has been proposed as an indicator of muscle quality and physical functioning. This study investigates the association between PhA and physical function, and its potential utility in case-finding phase of sarcopenia assessment based on EWGSOP2 functional cut-offs.

Background: Malnutrition is a prevalent but underrecognized health issue among older adults in China. Inadequate awareness may delay detection and intervention, especially in cognitively vulnerable populations. To assess the level of malnutrition awareness and its association with sociodemographic, cognitive, and nutritional factors in a representative sample of older Chinese adults.
