This paper presents an analysis of survey data to examine the association between participating in one of the National Institute of Health's (NIH) funded Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity Initiative (BUILD) program and students' intent to pursue a career in science. Data were collected from students at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) to examine the effectiveness of the BUILD Scholars program. Both BUILD Scholars and non-BUILD students were surveyed. Propensity score matching was used to generate the non-BUILD comparison group. Multinomial logistic regression results revealed that students participating in the BUILD intervention were associated with significantly higher intent to pursue a career in science. Results also showed the importance of variables such as science identity and research participation when assessing interest in science careers. These findings have implications for STEM program evaluation and practice in higher education.

A vast amount of research has shown that social inequality in educational attainment is a persistent phenomenon. Sociological research explains unequal educational decisions via primary and secondary effects of social origin, respectively unequal school performance and patterns of educational decision-making. So far, educational sociology has largely ignored the role of personality traits for educational decision-making.

Introduction: This qualitative study investigates psychosocial and structural barriers to dual careers faced by Korean student-athletes. In South Korea, coexistence of the elite-centered sports culture and exam-driven education system poses significant challenges for student-athletes seeking to balance their academic and athletic goals.
Methods: This study is grounded in Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory and explores interactions across five ecological levels: microsystem (parents and coaches), mesosystem (school-sport relationships), exosystem (institutional structures), macrosystem (sociocultural norms), and chronosystem (policy timing).

Commitment is a paradoxical feature of human behavior, often seen as both an irrational bias and a virtue for achieving goals. This study investigates its social roots, revealing how social contexts shape the strength, content, and timing of self-commitment, even in individual tasks. Through a series of game-like experiments, participants pursued one of two equally desirable goals via sequential actions under varied social conditions: alone in a private room (Experiment 1), alongside an optimal reinforcement learning (RL) agent (Experiment 2) or another human (Experiment 3) on a shared display, or alone with a mere passive observer present (Experiment 4).
