Juvenile Temporal Arteritis (JTA) is a rare non-granulomatous vasculitis affecting the superficial temporal arteries, mostly in individuals under 45 years old. It is often misdiagnosed due to its benign nature and the absence of systemic symptoms. Herein, we present a case report of a 40-year-old woman who initially presented with painless nodules in the left temporal area. Following a biopsy, the patient developed additional nodules not only in the same temple but also on the contralateral side. Remarkably, these nodules underwent spontaneous regression without further treatment, highlighting the variability in JTA's course and distinctive response to intervention. In addition, through a systematic literature review of 43 case reports - 17 with bilateral involvement - we aimed to thoroughly understand the clinical and histopathological findings, diagnostic processes, and treatment responses in JTA, with an emphasis on cases with bilateral involvement. Findings indicate that JTA typically presents as painless or painful temporal nodules, rarely accompanied by other non-specific symptoms, making histopathological examination crucial for accurate diagnosis. Collectively, our work provides the most extensive account of bilateral JTA cases to date. It emphasizes the need for clinical awareness of this condition, contributes valuable data to the limited information available on this rare condition and serves as a stepping-stone for further inquiry. The main takeaway from this review is the variable nature of JTA and the importance of histopathology in diagnosis, which helps clinicians avoid excessive testing and overtreatment and anticipate possible spontaneous resolution.

Pelvic visceromotor functions such as micturition are regulated by coordinated autonomic and somatic motor pathways from the central nervous system. The parasympathetic system induces detrusor muscle contraction while the somatic system facilitates relaxation of the external urethral sphincter, ensuring synchronized and efficient bladder emptying during the voiding process. This study explores the relationship between Barrington's nucleus corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH)-ergic projections and the formation of perineural nets (PNNs) among spinal motoneurons, particularly parasympathetic preganglionic neurons in the intermediolateral nucleus (IML) and Onuf's nucleus during the maturation of the neural circuitry controlling pelvic visceromotor functions.

Despite snappers' (family Lutjanidae) commercial and ecological significance, knowledge gaps remain regarding life history, ontogeny and ecology across their range in the Caribbean and south Atlantic. There is also a need to explore the efficacy of marine protected areas (MPAs) as a tool for enhancing nursery and spawning habitat conservation for multiple snapper species. Additionally, even as hurricanes and sargassum inundation have become rising issues for coastal communities, there is a scarcity of data on how commercially important species respond to these environmental disturbances.

The four-and-a-half LIM domain protein 2 (FHL2) is a conserved transcriptional co-regulator critical for vertebrate development and metabolism, yet its roles in arthropods remain poorly understood. Here, we report the functional characterization of LmFHL2 in the migratory locust Locusta migratoria, a devastating pest reliant on precise molting cycles for growth and swarming. Phylogenetic and expression analyses revealed high conservation of LmFHL2 across insects, with predominant expression in integument and gut tissues.

Understanding the processes that maintain coral assemblages is of crucial importance given increasing rates of coral mortality on reefs globally. Here, we compared relationships among distribution patterns of recruit, juvenile, and adult corals with distinct life history traits to determine the contribution of early life stages to the structure of adult assemblages at Toliara, southwest Madagascar. Results highlighted a marked spatio-temporal variability in the abundance of all life stages within and between major reef habitats.
