Wrist biomechanics remain incompletely understood due to the complexity of experimental measurements in this multi-bone joint system. Finite element analysis provides a powerful alternative for investigating internal variables such as carpal kinematics and displacement patterns. This technical brief compares two bone representation approaches, all-cortical versus cortical-trabecular, using two distinct finite element models developed from the same wrist CT dataset.

CRISPR ribonucleoprotein (RNP)-mediated genome editing offers a transgene-free platform for precise genetic modification in diverse herbaceous and tree species, including rice, wheat, apple, poplar, oil palm, rubber tree and grapevine. However, its application in woody plants faces distinct challenges, notably inefficient delivery and regeneration difficulties, particularly in species such as bamboo. While some of these issues also occur in herbaceous plants, they are often significantly more complex in woody species due to factors such as intricate cell wall architecture, widespread recalcitrant genotypes and inherent limitations of current delivery platforms.

Microbial desalination cells (MDCs) have traditionally employed simplified NaCl solutions as feedwater for synchronous desalination and bioenergy recovery. Nevertheless, the specific mechanisms by which MDCs remove complex multi-ions from saline wastewater remain obscure. This study thoroughly investigated ion migration, bioelectrochemical dynamics, and microbial ecological responses across three distinct configurations: monovalent ions - PMDC, divalent cations - CMDC and anions - AMDC.

Background: Barrett's esophagus (BE) is becoming increasingly prevalent in both Western countries and Japan. Early diagnosis of Barrett's neoplasia remains challenging. Traditionally, the Seattle protocol, a four-quadrant random biopsy method, has been recommended in Western guidelines.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the potential contribution of subtle peripheral auditory dysfunction to listening difficulties (LiD) using a threshold-equalizing noise (TEN) test and distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE). We hypothesized that a subset of patients with LiD have undetectable peripheral auditory dysfunction.

Design: This case-control study included 61 patients (12 to 53 years old; male/female, 18/43) in the LiD group and 22 volunteers (12 to 59 years old; male/female, 10/12) in the control group.
