Candidemia, predominantly caused by C. albicans, poses a significant threat in hospitals. Yet, non-albicans candidemia (NAC) and antifungal resistance are increasing concerns. This retrospective study at CHU UCL Namur Mont-Godinne, a Belgian university hospital, from January 2013 to February 2023, analyzed 148 candidemia cases. The mean annual incidence was 0.94 per 1000 admissions, with a notable surge in C. albicans cases in 2020, possibly due to COVID-19. Candidemia was most prevalent in the ICU (48 %), with C. albicans (57.1 %) and C. glabrata (18.4 %) being the predominant species and a 30-day mortality rate of 38 %. NAC was significantly higher in the hematology unit (81 %). Notably, no echinocandin resistance was observed, while fluconazoleresistance remained stable at 10 %. NAC was associated with azole resistance. This study provides a decade-long overview of candidemia at CHU UCL Namur Mont-Godinne, offering valuable insights into its epidemiology and clinical characteristics in Belgian hospital settings.

Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHDa) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients. While the first-line consensus treatment has been based on systemic corticosteroid therapy for many years, ruxolitinib has recently been approved and has become the standard second-line treatment. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of ruxolitinib remains limited to 40 % of cortico-resistant patients, raising the crucial question of selecting a third-line treatment.

Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common yet often underdiagnosed condition, partly due to limited access to polysomnography. Mandibular jaw movement (MJM) analysis offers a promising alternative to conventional home sleep apnea testing in children, capturing the dynamic interactions between respiratory drive and upper airway musculature, enabling accurate identification of, and critical insights into, sleep-disordered breathing events. This technical and practical review provides a structured framework for understanding and interpreting MJM signals during sleep in pediatric patients.

Obesity has been associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), but the evidence is inconclusive. We examined the association between genetically determined adiposity and four common NHL subtypes: diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and marginal zone lymphoma, using eight genome-wide association studies of European ancestry (N = 10,629 cases, 9505 controls) and constructing polygenic scores for body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for BMI (WHRadjBMI). Higher genetically determined BMI was associated with an increased risk of DLBCL [odds ratio (OR) per standard deviation (SD) = 1.

Background And Objectives: Cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) is an indicator of cerebrovascular health, and its signature in familial frontotemporal dementia (FTD) remains unknown. The primary aim was to investigate CVR in genetic FTD using an fMRI index of vascular contractility termed resting-state fluctuation amplitudes (RSFAs) and to assess whether RSFA differences are moderated by age. A secondary aim was to study the relationship between RSFA and cognition.

Pulmonary fibrosis remains a devastating and often fatal condition due to the lack of effective treatments that halt disease progression. Rodent models of pulmonary fibrosis are crucial to identify candidate targets and novel therapeutic agents. However, the attrition rate of novel drug candidates in clinical trials remains high.
